A police k9 is caught in the crossfire of a shootout between a suspect and officers. Very disturbing video.

smsmith is right. As a dog lover, and hopefully with fingers crossed, a future K9 handler, dogs were introduced as tools. They are still tools!! I have seen a partner lose his K9 because of my own actions in a pursuit. It turns my stomach to see it but better a dog than a human partner. I think that you would get the same response from any active LE officer.

Some of these comments disturb me, Why was the K-9 introduced into law enforcement.....to do things humans don't have to because dogs are expendable.....What a weak kneed generation we are. As far as the timing in the incident the sound and video appear to be off. The perp constantly challenged the negotiator. Maybe the dog had to cover some ground before getting to the perp. Maybe the officers fired to protect the dog but it didn't work out that way. It's amazing how quickly we will bad mouth our brothers over a dog. It's obvious this desperado was no joke. And remember..NONE OF YOUR WERE THERE SO SAVE YOUR JUDGMENTS...as you watch this video from the safety of your pc.

Where was the trigger control. The gun was thrown down before the K-9 was even shot. WTF folks look back at your training.....! You lost a good officer RIP K-9. : ( Look out for your fellow officers.

I am sorry but this K9 did not die because of a stupid perp. It died because of stupid officers. With 80 some rounds fired who in the hell were these guys. Oh the spray and pray boys. They definately do not nedd more guns. They need better brians.
Lets figure this out. Automatic gunfire. Was SWAT there. If so WHERE THE HELL WAS THE 37mm or 40mm soft impact rounds. Here the hell was the baton rounds, CS rounds anything but a K9.
A fellow officer died because of stupidity. Yes a K9 is an officer. Another thing that is appaulling is another cop threatening another cops life. Looks like some individuals got castrated before going to the academy or right after birth.
Rest in peace. Thank you for your service, dedication and devotion to duty. Yes it would be nice to know your name but you will be honored no matter what.

I dont know the whole story as I was retired already when this happened but I will tell the rest of the coppers here...and this isnt an excuse but maybe a deeper understanding
Our department is about 10,000 deputies now... a number of years ago we absorbed another agency... lets just say they weren't street policemen... but we absorbed their department and their people in the rank they held.. that put people in supervisory roles that had minimal training and perhaps little street police background... I just wonder if this might have been on play in this incident

I dont remember the k9s name
Where was the arwen 37.. the taser... gas... all available to the supervisor on scene.. he/she failed miserably
As I said.. I am embarrassed to say we we're the professional department we train to be and have this happen. This was a ghetto station.. ghetto deputies build a certain attitude about policing..it changes their thinking to siege mentality (sometimes). I have personally experienced it.. it is a boon and bane
