Thats total bullshit, I encourage my local first responders to "shut down" a lane or the whole road if neccesary on a scene like that, to hell with the motoring public until the scene is clear they can wait, this cop is a dumbass and people like him don't need to have badges, I have 13 years on the street and I will tell this man that to his damn face, total uncalled for BULLSHIT. I wish I was that fireman, 18,000 is a gift, I would have owned that town. Dickhead.

I am surprised about the Law Suit, but I am not surprised that the Officer lost. I don't know what he was thinking. First concern on the scene are the injured. After they are taken care of then if you have a problem work it out. Poor judgement on the part of the Officer.

This guy was and is a total buthole. What in the world was he thinking about. He had to be on a power trip. I hope that firefighter invited him out to the local gym for an attitude adjustment, If you no what I mean !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure the police officer was trying to act as the "Incident Commander" of this scene, since he was first to arrive, and didn't like the fact someone wasn't doing what he was telling them to do. However, the problem is that it was a MEDICAL scene and not a CRIME scene...that puts the Fire Chief or first FireFighter/EMT on scene in command (if they know to take command upon arrival).
It also appears these two departments may also have some sort of policital and jurisdictional issues between them. Having served both as a fire fighter and law enforcement, I know how overlapping jurisdictions and multi-jurisdictional response can create some pretty unstable politics between departments.
I think both of these departments could spend a little more time studying multi-jurisdictional protocol and attending ICS training (although NIMS may not have been fully developed/operational during this event, this is one example as to why NIMS/ICS is critical for all emergency response agencies to adapt to).

I bet he's one of those officers that no likes in his department. You never know, someday that officer might be in a cruiser wreck or God forbid shot and he needs the FD to save his life. I think that was a BS move on the officers part. Who cares about the flow of highway traffic, they're gonna rubberneck anyways.

My Father was a Firefighter for 30 yrs. and they sometimes know the right things to do. I think that it was nessesscary to shield the patient from the oncoming traffic also. I know that I'd hate for me, a loved one of mine, or anyone else to be put in harms way like that. This COP evidently had it in for firefighters or thought he was BOSS of the situation, and clearly he was WRONG. At least he was punished for his actions.

As a police officer myself, I am shocked at this officers decision to arrest this firefighter. What ever happened to unity and brotherhood not just in law enforcement but it emergency response personnel as a whole? I would personally be glad if a pumper truck provided a barrier for safety for myself, my fellow officers, their firefighters, and the injured individuals that need attention. Our goal when arriving on duty is but one... GO HOME AT THE END OF THE SHIFT! My hat is off to the captain for sticking to his guns on safety. Maybe the officer needs a wake up call on priorities not on the job but in safety and life in general. Good video.

They both had good points, the fire fighter wanted to leave the vehicle to protect them including the injured from passing cars. The officer realizes that the fire engine is a distrupting traffic let alone the accidet. The officer still should have not arrested the fire fighter.

This officer was on a power trip, what the hell was he thinking, to arrest a first responder while he is careing for the injured, he should get fired as well.

Now now now... Police officers are constantly complaining that the public should not armchair quarterback their decisions unless they are familiar with all their policies and procedures. Lest face it the general public really has no idea why police officers do some of the things they do. They are usually following a policy. The same is true for firefighters. This event is nothing more than a pissing contest. A personality conflict that got out of hand. Who knows perhaps the firefighter sole his girl, or the other way around. There is no telling. It is my humble opinion that if the officer wanted to arrest the guy he should have at least waited for the wounded guy to be transported first. I know if I were lying there bleeding out, I wouldn’t want one of the guys helping me to be arrested, because there is no way the quality of care coming from the other medics would be up to par. Their attention would be divided. Just my humble thought.
