Wow that is the patrol unit of my dreams but unfortunately I won't see that at my department anytime soon with our budget crisis. Still all department's should have units like these!

If you look around the website at www.carbonmotors.com they answer pretty much every question you can think of...including cost, repairs, computer technology and how it's integrated, etc.

SOUNDS GREAT BUT I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT REPAIR COST AFTER A WRECK? ARE YOU ONLY ABLE TO GET PARTS FROM THE COMPANY? HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE? DRIVING ON A TEST COURSE HOW DID IT FAIR AGAINST A VIC OR IMPALA? IT REALLY SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT CAR WITH A LOT OF GREAT IDEAS. I GUESS WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE.

It does seem fit for State troopers/Highway officers, but a nice feature that it doesn't mention if it has would be the "rumbler" for metro police. Other than that it would be annoying to have to re-adjust the mirror during and after every stop. And since those are the spot lights with them being electrical they move slower than the normal spot lights and I doubt they can move as versital as spot lights, so finding a house number especially in a rural area might be more difficult. Other than that looks like a sweet LEO ride.

I am a fan of the E7 but if it is going to cost even a little bit more than a Crown Vic, fully equipped or not, there is no way that I could convince my city council. Especially since you can't just strip it and sell it in the civilian market after it's retired.

Okay, let me see if I can answer a few remarks and questions. Understand that I DO NOT speak for Carbon Motors but I have been one of those involved with this vehicle for a couple of years now and do have some knowledge of it.
Price; The cost of this unit will be comparable to that of a fully equipped Crown Vic, maybe a few grand more but, it will last three times as long, get better milage, comes with tax credits, and Carbon Motors will buy the vehicle back at the end of it's life for a better price than departments get for their current used patrol units.
Interior room; They had a LEO who was about 6' 10" sit in the vehicle and the guy STILL was able to put the seat back so that his legs were straight out to the pedels! The rear prisoner area is quite large and with the coach doors you will find it very easy to put a prisoner in there and belt him in without even leaning across him!
2012; Yes it is going to take that long to get the production up. This vehicle WILL be produced on an assembly line and not one at a time so the time it takes to build the unit your dept orders is about 4-6 weeks. As I said previously, when the unit is delivered it is ready to go to work immediatly and does not have to be sent out to be outfitted with lights, siren, radio, computers, paint job, prisoner cage, etc.
Bugs in design; Understand the prototype that is being shown and that you are seeing photos of right now cost $4.5 MILLION! It is not a fly by night design but one that has been carefully engineered and well thought out.
Equipment inside the unit; The reason everything has been designed to be intergated is precisely to keep this stuff from becoming deadly projectiles or protusions. Even the spotlights have been intergrated into the outside mirrors with a simple toggle switch on the consule to control it instead of that large crome handle sticking out of the windshield pillar. Those things have done lots of damage to our guys and I know that I personally know of three guys that have been seriously hurt by striking one of those.
CAD Syatems; You can either use theirs or you can use yours. That is an option that is offered for those departments that do not have their own IT people. If your Agency orders it they will have the computer up and running and well as the radio already to transmit and recive when the unit arrives at your agency. Basically the Officer just puts in his personal gear and goes to work!
I do encourage that you go to their website and look around and even join the board and make suggestions. Guy, these people are mostly ex LEOs who are wanting to improve our "office" and do something great for us. I haghly applaude them and support them completely. Thinks about it, does a Fire Dept. by a regular truck and them take it to their garage and outfit it it as a fire truck? If you are old enough you will remember when they used to use station wagons as ambulances and then worked up to vans and added what they thought was necessary. Just recently do they actually design and build ambulances from the ground up. This is what we NEED!

I hope they find a way to make this vehicle afforable for all law enforcement agencies.
