I went through the tyler citizens police academy and got to meet SGT. JACKS and I can honestly say he's a great guy..not only was he and everyone else a hero but there was an officer name Dollison that was shot and everytime he moved that guy shot him...he was in ICU for the longest time and he survived I think he's a hero too...thankfully my mom wasn't at the courthouse on that day we were in iraq seeing my brother come home from Iraq...and everyone was calling my mom asking if she was there...cause they all knew if she was there should would be doing anything she could to protect her judge. ..THANK YOU SMITH COUNTY AND TYLER POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR DOING WHAT YOU DO....HOPEFULLY I WILL BE W/ TYLER POLICE DEPARTMENT AFTER I GRADUATE THE ACADEMY

The officer that rammed that guys truck is a too hero also. When he did it, I exhaled and said finally! Put that idiot down now, and here comes Sgt. Jack!!!!

It appears the criminal had no respect for even his own life. I have never been in Sgt. Jacks' shoes, but he did what he was trained to do: solve a situation with the least force possible. Unfortunately for the criminal, firearms are what led to his death. "Here's your sign." Having done perimeter patrol duty where I work (yes a prison, no poking fun there!), I thought about this kind of stuff ALL DAY LONG. "What if a person tried to make a run for my truck?" "What if I had to use a firearm while in a vehicle in motion?", etc etc. If you LEOs can do this, why not correctional officers? We may never encounter chasing people out in public, but the style of training just might help. There comes a point where you have to help your buddy. This is why I give props to all the officers who attempted to stop the gunman. Keep on bagging the bad guys. I need the fresh souls to watch after!

great job. we are often out guned. this also shows officer should be on gaurd in court and not use for a social gathering. "I will stand my ground even though i'm afraid I will stand my ground!"

That says a lot to anyone who doesn't like law enforcement. in their time of need even though they were out gunned they continued to come to the scene and potentially give their lives to help save the people around them.

Just watching this left me speechless. It's hairaising to know what our police officers are confronted with at times. I give them praise for their heroics.

Once again this shows the need to have a rifle with you. Was the rifle used a department weapon or personal?
