I used radar, I would make an independent observation, then click the radar on. We were required to be tested every year. What was done was we were placed in the operators seat with the speedometer blocked from our view. We then had to make independant estimates of cars while sitting and moving. In order to pass you had to be 3-5 mph correct. We received certification and this was a tool during testimony in trials.

I visualize, then pace, I don't use radar. Most streets near my beat are not surveyed for radar

CAtrooper is right (spoken like a true trooper, *sniff*, I'm so proud). It's more than just pointing the radar gun and looking for the screen to tell you something.
