Criteria For Dog Handler Selection

1. Full time law enforcement officer with a minimum of three years of patrol duty.

2. Handler should exhibit ability to work independently and unsupervised.

3. Handler should not exhibit abusive sick leave, nor have a founded excessive force complaint.

4. Candidate should be expected to have facilities to properly house a departmental canine.

5. Candidate should have a proper aptitude toward animals.

6. Candidate should be of high caliber from within the department.

7. Candidate should have a keen ability to communicate professionally with the public.

8. Candidate should have proficient report writing and record keeping skills.

9. Candidate should also exhibit a calm professional manner in dealing with stressful situations.

10. Candidate is in good physical health.
