Some of you need to get some sun on those pale canvases! And as KAF267 said, where do you draw the line? Tats on the eyelids, face, nose, neck??? It does become unprofessional at some point. Some tats could improve your officer presence with the bad element, and depending upon where you work, that may be a good thing. Beyond that, excessive visible tats offend and detract from credibility and legitimacy more than anything. How much is "excessive" would be a jurisdictional variable.

“Pain = Freedom” [LoL] I had ink before the job and I am working on new ink now. I am stunned how some agencies are stuck in the past. Yes, I am lucky I work for a progressive agency allowing visible tattoos [no full-sleeves for me just yet ] with no current policy against new ink, forced long-sleeve shirts, or termination for new/old visible ink. Is an LEO less dutiful for having ink? My dedication, hard-work, and professionalism in the field have never been questioned because of ANY of my tattoos; nor should they be... Just my thinking!

I have never been a particular fan of tattoos. In my career the only people who had tat's were junkies,ex-cons and sailors. That being said,I gotta admit that times they are a-changing. I still hate to see one on a pretty female form because it covers up what God intended as beauty and who's gonna fool with perfection ? Whatever ! Ain't my skin and I gotta admit that some of the tat's shown here are pretty artsy looking.I particularly liked the one with St. Michael and the devil and really liked the K-9 tat.Dog lover anyway.Who knows,I may have my pug tattooed on my ankle.Like I said,"Times they certainly are a-changing".

Having several tattoos myself, most of which being military, I do not believe they detract from the officers professionalism. Unfortunately there is still an outnumbering, outdated, conservative sway or should I say stereotype that all tattoos are bad. As law enforcement progresses into the future hopefully the mentality of the law enforcement administration will follow.

I think some of the ink is pretty good, and I don't think it detracts from the officers professionalism at all. I agree that placement is important, and I'd avoid neck/face/hands if I were ya'll. If it hides under the uniform, go for it. Just one old gray beards opinion. I'll see if I can figure out how to post mine.

I think it is best to put tattoos where they can be covered up.
My department just made it that if the tattoos can be seen on the fore arms, then you have to wear a long sleve shirt year round (with tie).
To hot for that. Besides it does not look professional. It's looks like they spent time in prison. Arms, neck and face. When do we draw the line
Love to look at them but it's not for me.
