How is a tattoo "unprofessional"? You are just as bad as that couple on the elevator who gave dirty looks to and scooted as far back away from the bearded tattooed man because he looked scary? Really because of tattoos? Little did they know there were never more safe than they were at that very moment standing with a police officer who had previously taken two bullets to save the life of two officers. Yea he worked dope but sometimes our appearance is the nature of the beast. To call him or anyone else unprofessional because he has tattoos is closed minded and quite frankly ignorant. Maybe I think wearing two western style belts and blue jeans trying to bring back the days of Wyatt Earp while on the job is unprofessional. Just saying lets be real guys we do a job that is like no other. Some of us love every day of it. Some of us have found ways we express ourselves, deal with the hurt, the loss. Lets not judge each other on appearance but rather help each other hold that line we so proudly walk day in and day out!

I hate to see fellow officers get inked-up just as much as I do new narcotics officers get earrings or worse. All of it is unprofessional if visible to the public and takes away something from the bearing of the officer.

Some nice ink for sure, my favorites are # 2 and 11 and I'm not at all offended by ink, unless it's offensive.
neck tattoos some how have a different flavor, not preferred..... A great tattoo with meaning, oh yeah I want to see it and know the story behind it, I have plenty of ink myself and it all has deep meaning.

When I need to call a LEO for help, the first thing that doesn't spring to mind is "jeez, I wonder if he/she has tattoos?". I have no issues with tattoos as long as they aren't offensive.

Sorry, but my tattoos are for me, not for other people. I don't really care about other people's tattoos, and I don't really care if people want to see or like mine.

While in the academy back in '69 we had a Lt. who instructed a course connecting criminals and tattoos. With the way society has fallen apart in the last forty years it's understandable that police now take up tattoos.

I have no problem with the Tattoos, I have one myself in memory of the Gulf War. It gives me a sense of accomplishment knowing I participated and survived an important event in my life. However, I think in representing Law Enforcement, its better to keep them covered. Nothing Wrong with Tattoos, plan to get another one day, but it will be hidden.

But the artwork is beautiful and so is the sentiment and I respect your right to express that..Just a personal choice on my part

Don't like them, trying to talk my son out of one now..My department never used to allow visible tattoos but they gave up on that with the recent surge..

Mine shows on duty. The tattoo debate goes on. Tattoos in today's society have absolutely NO relation to criminal activity! 3 out of 5 people I know have tattoos and they are Accountants, Attorneys (ok, maybe, she is a criminal), a roofer, an electrician, an IT professional, a Teacher, an Imaging Specialist, a Nurse, etc. They all have jobs, most have a spouse and children. Recently, I was at a water park with my kids and my 12 YO observed that about 3-4 out of 7 people there had a tattoo! We as Police represent people from our society. As tattoos become more commonplace - you will see more tattoos on Police! If you DIDN'T then you WOULD have a problem!
