Quiz Answers: Can You Get Past the Board?
15) Thank you for coming in today for this oral board session. Do you have any questions for the panel?
A) How much does the job pay?
Bad Answer: Should have been on job announcement. Shows poor research.
B) No.
Bad Answer: Applicant is know-it-all or not curious. Police officers and deputy sheriffs need to be curious people by nature.
C) What is the time frame for the next steps in the process?
Good Answer: This is a question that is not usually on the job announcement or website. Shows the applicant is confident in their performance.
D) How long until I can transfer to SWAT?
Bad Answer: Applicant has unrealistic understanding of the career. Most websites list timeframe for transfer to specialized functions.

This is how it goes, and the questions, although somewhat varied, are the ones that have been posed to myself. The quiz is outstanding, and the key is common sense. Don't try to fake your way past this, be who you are, and be honest to yourself. The panel already knows about you, you took many tests before getting to this point. Retaking this quiz is not the key to passing the panel, the first time is true. Good Luck! Stay Safe.

Great test. This really helps me to expect what I'm going to be asked and now I will prepare for the real Q & A and hopefully I will peruse my most wanted career of being a police officer in New York City A.K.A. The Big Apple.

I like how he explains what the bad answers mean when said like that. Might not be the exact way you might say but it will lead you in the right direction for answering

Not a bad quiz, though some of the responses were a little off the wall.

Good quiz- spot on with all the questions.... it felt like I was sitting in front of the panel. . The questions were exactly what they usually are. Same every time. . . It almost feels as thought it becomes scripted after a while. However, with the remarks at the end of the quiz-relating to why the answers were good/bad- this portion was most helpful to gain insight as to why they questions were asked and provided me with some good ideas on how to answer a bit cleaner.

This was really interesting, I can really see how the board would ask such questions.

Coming in at the 80% - 100% so not too bad. The test is a good warm-up for the real deal. I tend to use these quizzes to prepare me for Security job interviews since many of their scenarios tend to run along the same lines. Some of the answers though I would have combined actions with, like the store & apple, hey...put it back or pay for it...why wasn't that included? Some of these answers do not address the political correctness that we would learn from our depts. I hardly think anyone would realistically do a number of these straight no bendable answers given for us to choose from, without thinking of the ramifications of those actions. In the real world, the police chief's wife would def. be something I would want my superior to be backing me up on, but what about when your superior isn't available to show up...you would do whatever your dept. policy said you should do, you'd call for backup anyway/female officer if you were a male to transport right?
I guess you shouldn't over think the Q's, but use your common sense. I do agree that some of our weaknesses in the regular job fields are just that, but in LE they could be plusses. When I first got into the Security field, I thought for sure that I had hung myself when some of these Q's came up, but later found that what I thought was a sure noose around my neck, ended up being what Security was looking for. Everyone has weaknesses & strengths...its why working well with the public and each other can either mesh well or be a disaster. The idea of the board is to potentially not hire a "problem" person in the beginning if possible. Would like to see more PL quizzes like this one.
