Chevrolet Caprice
not due out until 2011, the Caprice will be back after a 15-year absence. It’s built on the same rear-wheel-drive structure of the Camero, it also comes with a V8, 6.0L engine for great acceleration and top speed driving.
Video: See the Chevrolet Caprice in action
The Caprice is built with space in mind. Its long wheelbase allows for more room in the front, and it will recline some while maintaining the safety barrier between the front and back seats.
Speaking of seats, they’ve specially designed the ones in the new Caprice to accommodate gear belts and are built for quick entrances and exits. It also has a built in power source to run any auxiliary equipment you bring along.

I remember that a couple of days ago I say a police officer driving one of the new trucks Tucson and he showed his appreciation for the car by letting even us have it for a test drive. I found it a great car, for a person who know what he needs.

I've seen some nice used motorhomes for sale that would make very nice police cars. Imagine having a mobile lab on the streets in case of an emergency. That way, you could gather evidence much faster, especially when you need to analyze something in order to confirm.

I know that my dream is probably something that is not going to come true, but I would really like to see a police class b rv. That would surely make me very happy. Imagine the impact it would have on people seeing such a car.

my crown vic never let me down, after transitioning from the ford l t d long ago it has been the best cruiser i had driven. after 17 years as a cop i only hope the new cruiser will serve the next shift of officers as well. i have driven every thing from jeeps caprices and found ford crown vics the best.

Without driving any of the replacements, I'd have to say I would tend to gravitate to the caprice more than the others. The Taurus is available with the EcoBoost V6 and AWD, but most budget conscious departments would probably default to the FWD naturally aspirated V6 (blah). The Charger is O.K. but guys say they are not great ergonomically. The Carbon is a good idea but many depts don't have Deisel fuel points and would probably go with a different vendor as opposed to spending the money for a new gas pump.
Keep in mind - Chevrolet tried a bottom up "small" cruiser design in the mid 90s (Impala) but didn't take because it was too small, had no frame, had only a V6, and was FWD. If they go forward with the Caprice and the quality controls are better (and I think they are) then Chevrolet is poised for a huge victory.

Too bad about the crown vics being eliminated...I used to drive a chevy caprice (on duty) and it was in the shop more than it was on the road!! But the Fords, just kept running!!

That Carbon Motors E7 looks really nice and futuristic, but is it feasible to implement in a municipality that requires a hundred of them? Isn't that kind of expensive?

I thought that they milked the production aspect of this vehicle. Original plans are about 5 years past. Light weight Carbon body/Reinforced armor plating. I am surprised the concept didn’t make a clean sweep in all the boarder patrol & cruiser designs for today’s law enforcement. Sadly I think it came down to simple economics. I also think they are pushing the diesel just because of the sell ability of fuel economy. I had hoped for a quicker resolution especially for those involved in border patrol and Homeland security. I think that since we now have the ability we all owe it to law enforcement to give them the next generation tools. This design was considered the low end. The focus was fuel economy. It is a step in the right direction though.

The Carbon Motors E7, even though it has yet to go into production, has set the bar for all other makers who are improving the specs for models that are expected to be coming out. The E7 is the ONLY vehicle designed from the ground up as a LE vehicle. ALL the others are passenger cars that have some modifications that beef them up some but still need to have tons of aftermarket parts added to them. They are also available to the general public and the wannabe's as opposed to the E7 which will NOT be available to to public, period. Used E7's will be returned to the company and bought for a fair price.

Over 33 years I drove pretty much all there was to drive, including 74-76 AMC's,fast but deadly, and I would have to say that the CV was the best all around PV.Others wee faster and some may have handled more responsively but for day to day workouts , the Fords were the best,And that includes a signifigant nod for comfort. Cause as we all know,it's fun to talk about high speed pursuits and code 3's and stuff, but 95 % of police driving is just, well driving.

Our department bought 4 chargers and we have had trouble with them. One unit had 2 lifters put in, one had to have 16 lifters and an injector. Another had 5 injectors and a intake manifold. The tires that came with the unit lasted only 12000 to 13000 miles. Each time the unit was in the shop we did not get it back for two weeks, they said that the head gasket was on back order.
