Is anyone here a mounted officer? I have seen a lot of k9 posts but haven't noticed anybody talking about mounted patrol.

Thanks, I know Toledo, OH has a unit too, but was wondering if anyone was one, so far I have only seen one that used to be with a mounted unit.

Columbus Ohio and Detroit have mounted units, as does the US Parks Police.

I can't believe out of 80,000 members not 1 mounted officer.

That's what I was thinking when I first asked the question.

I was PMing one but I have acute CRS so I can't remember who he was! Sucks getting old. I'll go through my list to see if I can find him.

I think they are far and few between anymore, though in Colorado, we have the Colorado Mounted Rangers and I think the majority of the sheriff's agencies maintain posse's which due horseback patrol at community events and with search & rescue missions. Not sure if we have too many as members of PL though.

Are we talking mounted officers or officers mounted?

Honestly I am not an officer but I do want to be one someday. The reason I asked this question was I guess I kind-of wanted to know what it was like, so to answer Sheepdog267's question, I don't know what the difference is supposed to be.

The S.O. over in RPL's area has a Sheriff's Posse which is a mounted unit. They are all volunteers and used mostly for search and rescue in remote areas and parades.

Houston Police Dept. and Harris County Sheriff's Dept. use to have mounted patrol, but not sure how active anymore.
