Posted about 5 years ago I work at a medium sized jail in Gainesville Fl and we carry cuffs, OC, radios w/ man down, plus we can use tasers and pepperball if needed. Outside the jail we are armed with Glock 40s for transports and court. The entire jail is certified to use the OC and tasers and about 1/3 of the staff can use the pepperball guns. Our cert Team also has access to less-leathal devices (bean bag, rubber pellets ect). Good Luck

Posted about 5 years ago I been retired 15 years now, but we had our whistle, pen and a prayer and as far as I know thats what they still have in NJ. They now wear a vest since Officer Fred Baker was shanked and killed in the line of duty shortly after I retired.

Posted about 5 years ago I was at a jail that only held about 28 people tops, and we had a couple x-26's. They were important seeing as it was generally one officer per shift. No backup till the deputies arrived. EDIT: Oh, and of course handcuffs. Red blooded right wing Christian, anti-hippie nutjob. Any questions? An unarmed man is a subject, not a citizen. Protect your rights, carry a gun responsibly. Do your civic duty, support the death penality for politicians!

Posted about 5 years ago We minimally carry cuff(s), pepper-spray, radio and key-set. A few guys will carry a flashlight on them. Tazers are kept in all of the control rooms and Sgts’ offices, which doesn’t do you much good if you’re on the floor or in the booking area.

Posted about 5 years ago Back when I worked in the state prison all we were required to carry was OC spray and a radio. I currently work in a county jail that only requires you to carry one set of cuffs. Other things are optional. You can carry extra cuffs, flashlight, gloves, etc. Only Sgt's and above carry a Taser and no chemical agents of any kind are authorized.

Posted about 5 years ago HA the Virginia DJJ allows us to carry gloves, small AA mag light, radio, cpr mask and thats it. SGT's get cuffs. No OC or taser's in the facility. Keep the change I don't want it. False hope and lose change.

Posted about 5 years ago In my facility you have your instincts for defense. OC, cuffs, batons, riot shotguns or S&W's is issued only in emergencies to select Officers. We are allowed to have a flashlight, a radio, gloves and our keys. That's it.

They took the big flashlights and replaced them with disposable ones. |

Posted about 5 years ago In Indiana at MaxSec we carry radio, CN/OC, handcuffs, key holder. First responders carry tasers (seargants only). Trip officers carry all + 9mm and extra mags, tower officers use shotgun and AR-15. I work the D/S unit and am comfortable with just CN/OC and cuffs, at one time we had a baton shot that was lost to inmates during a scuffle. Needless to say to much can be a bad thing. In an emergency weapons teams respond with 30 in batons, protectojet, baton shot, and a plastic projectile shot.

Posted about 5 years ago Inside the institution, officers carry nothing but some cuffs, a whistle and hopefully , a brain...lol. Supervisors carry OC inside. On transportation runs we carry a .38 and on runs where we use the "Big Blue" bus, we have a Remington 870 shotgun on board.
