I was just wondering how many other non sworn members are trying to become officers. And if so what stage are you in?

There are a few different things you can do and still be involved. It may vary by state but Dispatching, Crime Analysist, Animal Control are all jobs in NH you dont need to pass a physical for. You should check with your State. They may have other things available too. Also alot of states have labs you can work in if your not an officer, but i am not sure what type of degree you need for that. Ask around here. For the most part everyone here is very nice and willing to help. And they know a whole lot more than me on that because they are LEOs. Best of luck.

Wow, I don't know how I missed your response, sorry about taking so long. Thanks for the input. I just received a list of certified (by the state) dispatcher training classes for my area. That's the route that I might take, on the ride alongs that I have been on, I am always impressed with our local dispatchers and their professionalism.

I'm in the process now with my local agency. I am waiting for a conditional letter of appointment. If I get that then I take a medical exam, stress test and a psychological test. If I pass all that I'm in. My experience in the military I believe has helped me out a lot in my process.

I interned locally, but the dept. already had enough officers graduate the acdemy. The dept. was about 10-12 officers short, when I was interning. So that did not work out. I'm now in the background check for a federal agency. Waiting for that to finish, I'm also looking at some other PD's in the state. I might try out for.

My 3 panel board interview was the 13th and I was told that it could be up to 8 weeks before I hear back from the agency.

Everyday! With the people that I have heard say how hard it is...you better believe it. I have a personal trainer down at the gym that has been helping me out. Giving me a meal plan and each week I am doing better than the week before.

I don't know that you need a personal trainer, except for motivation. You will run alot, do alot of pushups, sit ups, flutter kicks, bulldogs, planks etc. I would rec. that you test your self every couple weeks by performing the entrance exam test and keep a log of your progress. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Right now I'm applying for jobs in Law enforcement, I decided to get out of the private sector after 13 years and head in another direction.. I'm currently in school part time, trying to obtain a degree in criminal justice, and I work full-time. I've applied for a few jobs so far, but left the NYPD off my list until the pay scale increases.

mdnghtlover2001, you might want to help out and fix your poor English usage if you want to be taken seriously around here. You claim you are in college based on your profile. What we read here wouldn't get you near the front door of LEO-land.... just a suggestion.

Very beggining stages. Trying to get out of civilian jobs for several years now, and into an occupation I honestly care about that challeges me, and allows me to work with professionals. Right now, I'm working on getting back in better, physical shape and deciding on which direction to take.(county, municipal, state) Can't commit to a full dept, so I am actively pursuing a career as a Reserve Deputy to gather a better understanding of law enforcement. The successful LEO's I know, either have a prior military background or interned with local depts, to get a taste of the life. The Reserves mirror the same training as fulltime academy cadets. Since I have no military training, i fiqure the internship/reserves would introduce me into the world of martial/ paramilitary occupations.

I was just wondering since I dont want to jump right in, being that I am soo new, how many of you can inform me of the pros and cons of pursing my career as a Reserve deputy first. I saw the person before me is tracking the same but has anyone went down that path yet? I start tomorrow and Im Just real nervous if its the right way or what? I dont want to do the wrong thing or end up going the roundabout way to get somewhere ppl got in a smaller amt oftime. I am in the army reserve and I just think it was a good call there but maybe it's considered more civilian to real officers and fulltime students? Any feedback?

i beleive whatever you bring to the table as goes a even a novice familiarity with a structure of military protocol, your wayy ahead of the game as goes a fresh cadet, who's completley new to this type of profession/lifestyle in general.

buddy of mine is in the NG, and he just graduated the sherriffs academy. Still does drill w/ his squad every month and actually might be activating in june.
