| Posted almost 6 years ago Hi al391. You might want to start by looking into the Boy Scouts Explorer program. I think it is for 16 to 20 year olds. My city has a Law Enforcement Explorers troop that meets at the police station. They get to do ride-alongs and are trained to use police equipment. It's a chance to see it all first hand. As far as college, if you find something close to home that has a good program the school counselors will help you get started with the basic courses. We also have 2 police academies in my area, and some of the "continuing education" courses (required for all cops in Missouri) are open to the public for the same fees charged to officers. Most of these courses last from 4 hours to 5 days. It would be worth looking for something similar close to your home.

| Posted almost 6 years ago Also check into your local agencies for any possible "Explorer" programs... Fairfax County has one for anyone under 18. Then from 18-21 they have a cadet program. Then you can become a recruit and go to academy.

| Posted almost 6 years ago TEEX at Texas A&M University in College Station has a great academy. Check with you local law enforcement agency about explorer and ride out programs.
