Do you sometimes disagree with the laws you are tasked to enforce? If you've found yourself in this situation, how did you handle it?

Well, It is certainly nice to have discretion. However, We are hired to uphold these laws good, bad or indifferent.

FOC warrants for small amts shouldn't result in arrest for a parent that's working & trying to be responsible.

... they get arrested, lose their job and fall deeper into the hole.

WITH SOME LAWS YOU DO HAVE DISCRETION BUT WITH MOST YOU DO NOT. YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER WE DID NOT MAKE THE LAWS WE ONLY ENFORCE THEM SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO DISTANCE YOURSELF AS FAR AS YOUR PERSONAL FEELINGS AND JUST DO YOUR JOB. I KNOW IT SOUNDS HARSH BUT THAT IS WHAT WE ARE HIRED TO DO, THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES THAT IT WAS HARD TO ENFORCE CERTAIN THINGS BUT I CAN NOT AFFORD TO LOOSE MY JOB FOR SOME ONE ELSE.

How about the DC gun ban that was repealed and is now mandated unconstitutional? The DC Mayor is telling the PD to still enforce this .

The DC mayor just appealed the rulling yesterday (I believe.)

It must be hard for DC officers to knowingly enforce an unconstitutional law. This probably puts them in a hard spot - be fired for not enforcing it or go to jail and be sued for knowingly violating someone's civil rights.

There may be a wide variety of opinions on outdated laws and their constitutionality... however, as BT45 said, we are here to enforce them, not to pick and choose which ones we like best. Discretion is great, and I use it every day on the job, but the law is absolute regardless if I agree or not.

Yes, like arresting gay pride protesters and letting the gay pride have public sex and nudity. It's not just New Orleans anymore.

I don't disagree with them, I strongly enforce them most especially Family Violence. I do like having the choice to arrest or not, in minor violation cases.
