My freind and her freind were approached by the cops yesterday they were caught smoking weed and then the officer serached there car and found weed, I do not know the amount but one was cuffed and one was placed in the back of there car, they gave the cops their information and he took possesion of the weed, Then at that time he recieved a phone in call to another location and decided to let them go but kept the weed, My question is Would this be placed on her criminal/ police record and if so how long will it stay for, Because she was pulled over recently and the cop asked her and then mention her freind name if they were smoking tons of pot still and he then mention to her its going to be legal so it was okay to answer him, she said no because she learned her lesson and she got afraid that now cops have the means to obtain information on that seperate inccident and harass her. So my question is was it put on her record, it was not her weed but her freinds, and if so are cops allowed to harass her like that.

Chances are he placed the marijuana in evidence and filed a report. Your "friend" may or may not have charges coming forth. Officers can always do a warrant request or summons request at a later date.

Cops won't use information to "harass her". They may use the information to make another arrest if your "friend" hasn't learned her lesson. Contrary to what your "Friends" have told you, Cops typically don't harrass people. If folks are caught doing something wrong, it's not harrassment. My father lived to be 86 years old, and the only contact he had with Law Enforcement (other than me) was when he was the victim of a crime. 86 years of obeying the law and he never got "harrassed".

Little hint: This is the internet. It's not your text message or a chat room. Check your spelling and grammar.

I agree with you here. Also the OP may want to read the TOU's and introduce himself. As of right now all I know is that he is a doper who cannot form a proper sentence. I do find it amusing that instead of asking the police officer who handled the case in person about whether or not they will be "harrassed" they hide on the internet and throw up a question on our site, not really wanting to be part of our community. Interesting........

First of all my english is not that great as you can tell no one is perfect. The fact that you get annoyed that that is worrysome. Secondly, No I do not use drugs nor like them I was just trying to be a friend and get input for her, I wasn't the one there like I said again. The second pull over she had was with a speeding violation where the officer after everything was said and done asked her about pot and her smoking it and used thoese exact words (Do you still smoke tons of pot). These were two seperate inccidents with different officers. So with that being said the one who wasn't put in cuffs and not owning the weed, she will still have the possiblity to be called in? If so when will the alloted time for these charges expire from her record, if not may she do somthing to expunge this record?

If your friend is that worried about it, have her contact the officer. Like I said earlier, if they elect to follow up on any charges, they'll come knocking at her door and let her know.

Something to keep in mind; this is the internet. We do not know who you are, where you are or even how old you are. Different states have different penalties for Marijuana. Ours are generic answers.

As a civilian member here, I can corroborate PL gets all kinds of inquiries about "friends" who cross the line and get caught.  Your friend is fully capable of handling things herself, so why isn't she?  A simple call to the police station to speak to the officer to discover if there are charges pending should clarify things.  Let her put on her big girl pants.

On a lighter note, a it stands, I'm guessing your friend got off the hook.  For now.

As for any stopping and questioning the officer might do in the future, it would be smart of your friend not to cop an attitude.  My instincts tell me you are both rather young and the officer may be taking a paternal interest in your friend's welfare.  And, if the incident taught her a lesson.

Rather than cast the officer as a harrasser, probably wiser to see him as someone who cut your friend a break because he has hope she can turn her lifestyle around.  I'm guessing he's checking back to determine if the break caused a pause for thought and a change in lifestyle - as well as a healthy respect for the law.

That is good old-fashioned policing - like the town cop used to do.  What would you prefer for her?  A heartless robocop made of metal with a camera mounted in its helmet??

Heck the person still doesn't know the TOU's even after being asked to read them. Still don't know anything about him except that he has a very thin skin.......and likes to smoke dope. Smoke dope=be a dope. Hang around with dopers=be a doper. Guilty by ASSociation in my book. Personally I could care less as I have no use for dopers. I do like locking them up though. It is so nice to see them cry knowng it will be a while before they are able to experience their next high...........

Continue the snippiness, it is amusing. Oh and grow a pair, call the PD and ask to speak to the officer instead of hiding your problems on the internet (or perhaps THINK you are hiding them).

Sounds like your friend needs to move to Colorado or Washington State where pot is legal and they can smoke THEIR brains out with no worries of 'harassment' from the police. Just don't get high and drive PLEASE!!! That's still against the law!!!

How's that HOPE and CHANGE working out for you?

What would you do for a Klondike bar?

How is asking a person a question about prior KNOWN behavior harassment?

Harassment n. the act of systematic and/or continued unwanted and annoying actions of one party or group, including threats and demands...

The answer to any question regarding any illegal activities, whether you were the guilty party or an innocent bystander:  call an attorney and pick better friends and/or stop doing illegal activities.

No smoke weed = no L.E.O. contact. the Officers probably talked about this person in their pre-shift meeting so they know her name and what she drives. If you speed we will stop you. if you smoke weed you can and will go to jail. I will bet the Officer in question will not give this person a break again. Grow up, quit whining, and Do NOT smoke weed. Our Social Security program can not handle anymore of you idiots sucking up the tax payers hard earned money from you frying your brains on this garbage.

if your friend had pot in her car ... than don't you think officers might get suspicious>? drug use is illegal...why did she have a baggie in her car in the first place. was her friend ( of a friend?) smoking pot in the car, as she drove around giggling and doing it as well? Cool! Goodluck with that

No, the facepalm had to warpdrive to Policelink.

Let's see...Driving around under the influence while in possession of an illegal substance.  Getting pulled over, searched and substance is confiscated.

After getting a break, wimping out on clarifying the consequences and asking a friend to do it, then nurturing a weird sense of entitlement in order to justify whining about police harrassment.
