So, the widow of Chris Kyle, "American Sniper," has been ordered to pay Jesse Ventura 1.8 million dollars in a defamation suit because of what Kyle wrote in his book about knocking out a Navy Seal. What are all your thoughts? Personally, I haven't a clue how Ventura proved it was him Kyle was talking about in his book. For anyone who hasn't read the book, it's a great read.

I'm sorry to hear the outcome of the ridiculous lawsuit, unfortunately during an interview on fox news Chris Kyle elaborated on the incident and named Venture as the seal involved and it occurred in a bar in California and Venture was bad mouthing the country and Kyle had heard enough. Typical Ventura makes a huge thing about his times in the Seal teams, why couldn't he take his beating like a man and walk away.

I read Chris' book quite a while back.

It is indeed a good read. It's a little bit of 'look at me', but once you can get around that aspect, it is very insightful.

Interesting how the jury found Kyle guilty when there were witnesses on both sides of the aisle. I do know that personally, The Ex Gov.'s creds has gone down a little more in my  book and i will have no further use for one such as himself

The way I've viewed ventura is that his reputation and character has been in the toilet for quite some time, so what is there to really defame? He claims he's lost TV viewings or however they put it, but how the heck does one attribute what kyle said to ventura losing ratings or shows? I just don't get it. At least the book publisher's insurance will be paying a good chunk of the lawsuit.

I haven't read the book.  Jesse Ventura has always been an objectionable blowhard and rabid publicity hound.  As a public figure he can expect all sorts of derogatory remarks about his character.  Every celebrity endures this.  Some celebrities make a career out of it.

Why Ventura wants to showcase himself as a gleaming candyass is beyond me.  I can't imagine that no red-blooded Navy Seals have ever dusted it up in a bar.  Maybe even here in San Diego?? Or are we to think such shenanigans are discreetly confined to establishments like the Amoeba Bar in Kowloon??

There's a little place near The Strand that is where the 'guys' hangout. Generally no issues.

Jesse is a cartoon character anymore, and s stupid one at that.  Now that he's got all that money, maybe he'll make a contribution to charity. How about giving to the "Ex-SEALS knocked on their butts after running their mouths in front of the wrong crowd" association ?? He ought to be familiar with that particular association; he's a charter member.

Yup, know that little place well - if you are talking about our Strand down in Imperial. Steve the barkeep and their bouncers kept things pretty tidy when I hung out there.  Lots of military from Coronado.  Fishermen, lifeguards, lots of beer.  Lots of stories.  LOTS of fun.

Lots of 'Frogs' in PB too.

Some years ago, I was casting for an action film in the SD Harbor. We called for Navy Seals willing to stage a sword-fight on the deck of a sailing ship then fall back on a break-away railing to land in the Bay.  A bunch of retired Seals showed up for the call.  They stopped into the hotel bar to guzzle a few Bloody Mary's before coming up to our HQ.

What a crew!  They burst through the door full-fledge can-do!  They were ready to do the scene that day - like in the next half hour.  Too bad we cut the scene. They would have livened up the shoot!  God LOVE 'em!!

I'd NEVER cast Seals anywhere as stuffed shirts or prigs.  As to general character, like all our US special warfare teams, Navy Seal's reputation for patriotic service speaks for itself.

Needs NO help from MarlyB!
