Hi everyone! I hope all are doing great. My name is Juan. I live in Anaheim CA. Im new here and I recently made up my mind to seriously pursue a career in law enforcement. The idea of becoming a LEO has always lingered plus it's been suggested by friends who know me. I've already contacted my recruiter in my area but would like to touch base with other LEOs in order to increase my chances in finding my place in LE. I look forward to chatting with officers and other serious aspirants. Thank you for reading. Best of luck to all!

Welcome from Missouri. . . .

Guder, how many people actually live in northeast Montana?  About a dozen????  :)

I know there is a village close by to me that has like 76. . . .or was it 74.  Nope!  The last time I went through there it was 80. . . . .but they paid some money for that sign.  It's electronic and I think I saw it change when one of their residents was headed to work.

Hmmm.... Home of the Mouse House. Nice weather we're having.

So tell me, ... you used the word 'recruiter'.

How does one retain a recruiter when it comes to a law enforcement career? And what exactly is a recruiter as it applies to law enforcement...?...or as you say becoming a "LEO"?

"It's my credit score that might prolong but it's not bankruptcy or near it."  Are you holding off because you want to better your credit score?  If that is the case, you will have to wait at least 3 years past your last missed payment. . . . .7 years if you had a bankruptcy before anything starts coming off of your record.  However, you may still be required to answer why you missed payments or (if a person had to file for bankruptcy) why they had to go bankrupt.

I say all that to say this. . . . . .you may as well apply for the positions you are looking for.  Most departments won't disqualify you for a bad credit score. . . .or even a bankruptcy.  HOWEVER. . . . .that only goes IF you have a legitimate reason WHY the bad credit score/bankruptcy.  Many people get jammed up in bad circumstances. . . . .it is what one does AFTER they get run through the mill that shows what the makeup of that person is.  Does the person tell their creditors to go pound sand. . . .or do they accept responsibility for it and make arrangements to clear up their credit issues.  It has to do with CHARACTER and INTEGRITY.  THAT is what the departments are looking for. . . .people that will own up to their mistakes and do their best to make things right.

Good luck in your endeavors.

Steve

OIC. I thought you had somehow retained the professional services of someone who looks for a LEO job for you.... which by the way MIGHT be a good job description for a veteran looking to create a unique job niche. Take on 'prospects' and scour the landscape for potential jobs. Sort of like a Background Investigator in reverse.

Steve and thesarge thanks for your important feedback!!

as a human being we make mistakes and my credit situation was one. I did take steps to resolve it as good as i could but since it was during the great recession it was more difficult. I still get approved for credit cards etc so it must not be that bad. My parents did not raise me to be a crook but to pay what i owe. All your feedback is extremelt helpful. Thanks. If i owe $100k i dont believe in bankruptcy but paying it back. Again, stealing is not a value for me. Im also not saying that everyone that files bankrupcy is, its a legal process and its theres for a good reason.

Thanks for the feedback! Have a great weekend and be safe!!

sincerely,
