Hey everyone. I just had a wonderful thing happen and am so happy, I wanted to share.
I had a wonderful equine buddy (his pics are on my profile) that we had to have put down the day before my birthday in May of this year. We were devastated. We were supposed to buy a horse from my husbands aunt and have it shipped to us from Indiana. Found out the horse is not very healthy, and we weren't prepared to go through possibly ending up having to put her down, especially after what happened to our Red.
ANYWAY, I still work on my days off from the PO at the barn where we kept my horse. Yesterday, the barn owners tried to contact me all day at work. Seems they found me a horse. I got it last night. for FREE ( I am still in shock!!) He is a gorgeous 15 hand high Morgan/ Tennessee Walker cross. We worked him today in the indoor and outdoor arenas, and he is a dream!
Here are pics of my new furbaby.:
This one was taken in his stall. He moved right when I was taking the pic, so his head is blurry:

And here are the other two pics I have of him so far:

Hope y'all don't mind me sharing this here. I'm just so happy I could burst right now.
:-D

Dunno, Troy (one of the owners of the barn where I am keeping him, and the person who got me the horse) is the one who looked the horse over from head to toe to make sure I was getting a healthy animal, but we are having the equine dentist out next week to have them pulled, and to have his teeth floated if necessary. I don't think he has had much dental care, but for the most part his teeth look good, I was told by the people who got him for me. He is also due for another set of shots, and worming, which will also be done this coming week, and his feet trimmed and shoes put on the front. He is a really nice animal. Great ground manners, but needs some work in the saddle. He wasn't worked much...the people we got him from have small children and didn't have time for him. He is well trained, just hasn't been worked much in awhile.

Yep. Still, even with all that needs to be done, it was a great deal. At least, I don't have to pay a fortune to bring him back to health. I will be shelling out some money, yes, but for regular maintenance of his health, not for medical problems that may or may not result in recovery. He is healthy, and happy. Can't wait to hit the trails with him.

Good look'n animal. Morgan/ Walker cross is a good breed. Congrat's on you new family memeber.

Thanks, everyone. I have been trying to spend time getting him used to me when I have a little time after work. I haven't ridden him yet....I am taking a 10 day vacation starting tomorrow. I figured I'd wait til then. If I get thrown, I'll have some time to recover before I have to go back to work. LOL.

Fine looking piece of horse flesh. hard to see too well but the conformation does appear very nice. Congrats and take good care of him.

Ground work is going well. He is well mannered on the ground, but he is quite spirited. I haven't ridden but once in the past year and a half since my last horse, Red, got ill. Red was unrideable for the year and a half before he was PTS....but when he WAS able to be ridden, he was placid as a cow. LOL This one isn't, that's for sure. I think he is going to be a lot of fun. I want him to have a chance to trust me, and me to feel more comfortable with him, before I try and ride. If I am nervous when I mount up, he will know, and will give me hell. I have a friend, a barrel racer, at the barn where he is boarded, who is riding him for me, to "get the squirrelies out of him". He seems to be coming along nicely. I plan on having our first ride Monday or Tuesday. We have an indoor arena, so if it is raining I'll be able to ride regardless.

not really. The lady I got him from said he is terrified of fly spray and being sprayed with the hose. Yesterday, it was miserably hot and he stood perfectly still while I sprayed him down with the water hose for about 10 minutes. Today, I sprayed him down good with the fly spray. He fidgeted for a minute, then settled right down. He doesn't like mud puddles, but will go through them if he can't go around. I haven't tried to take him out on the trails yet, but I think when I do, I will do so with another rider, just for the sake of safety.

I don't have any pictures of me really. I am not photogenic....I end up looking like crap, so unless one of my kids takes a pic of me when I am not looking, I don't let anyone take my picture. Guess that's what getting old does to ya. LOL.

good idea Jessie. always helps to have someone to pick you up and help you find your horse!

Yeah, and someone to let local LE know (when a riderless horse comes running outa the woods) that there is no need to send in a search party....Almost happened to me and a group of friends two years ago....one of my friends got thrown, the horse took off through the brush, we went after her but lost sight of her. While we were on one road, the horse came out the other side of the woods onto the other access road, and the local PD was getting ready to send in a copter and dogs when our friend, on foot came limping out of the woods.

Yeah, love that "fly dance"....NOT. I totally agree with ya there! Gotta remember too, we don't heal as fast as we did when we were 14. And when we were 14, we all thought we'd live forever....now we KNOW we can die.

Ok, y'all, just got back from the barn....little history: I bought a new synthetic saddle, breast strap, bridle and pad set before I got Checo, for the horse I was originally going to get (a chestnut Tenessee Walker mare). ANYWAY, tonight I tried it on Checo, and he looks gorgeous in it. His black coat really sets off the color of the saddle. I took a picture for you, ODINSbetrhalf! (It was all I could do to keep from putting his bridle back on, mounting up and heading out for a ride......unfortunately everyone was getting ready to eat, so I scrapped the idea...for tonight anyway!) :-D

Here he is:

Ta Da!!

PS, just an FYI, the only camera I have at the moment is my camera phone....so please forgive the poorer quality of the pictures themselves...thanks. :)
