I am new to this site and I thought it would be a good idea to see if I could get law enforcement officers opinions on visiting someone in a jail.

Depends on the jail. Each jail has it's own set of rules.

No jeans. Don't look like a slob. Listen carefully to any instruction given to you.

Do not try to pass contraband into the jail. (You'll end up following it to your new 'apartment' at the 'Greybar Hotel'.

Remember: From start to finish, you are on camera.

That's it. Have fun.

At the jail in our county you can only visit an inmate through video conferencing. You show up at the sheriff's office and go into a room where the monitors are set up then "visit" with the inmate. It is a very good system and keeps contraband out of the jail (at least through that route). All video and audio is recorded just in case someone wants to say something incriminating. Have a good visit!

You can't cure stupid.

Good advise to follow. Let me add to it. Make sure you are not currently on probation or parole and it goes with out saying to make sure you have no warrants. Make sure you bring a valid picture iD. Here the jail visits are only on Friday and Saturday.

I wouldn't take a cake with a file in it.

Just a hint.If you plan on becoming a law enforcement officer I would keep the jail visits to a minimum. The command structure on the job and or those who perchance are possibly going to hire you deeply frown on this, especially if the individual is a convicted felon.

Keep body parts covered up and flashing them will probably get you banned from the facility and possibily charged.
