Incident Date: Friday, October 25, 2013

Suspects: Not Applicable




Police Chief Steven Fleming died from injuries sustained Friday, October  25, 2013, when he fell from a ladder while working in the department's Evidence Building. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remained until succumbing to his injuries November 1, 2013.


Chief Fleming served 22 years with the Gainesville Police Department, and was promoted to Chief in 2008. His Line of Duty Death was the Departmennt's first in almost 60 years. 


He is survived by his wife and daughter.

Chief Fleming........I know God has something really important for you to do up in heaven.  You are on God's Force now with all the great Officers who came before you.  Thank you for your dedication to Law Enforcement.


To your family, friends, co-workers of the Gainesville PD in Texas, and the community in which you served my heart is heavy.  Please accept my condolences and may God ease the pain in your hearts.  You all will be in my prayers.  God Bless.
