Greetings and salutations!

My name is Andrew Hampton, and I am not a LEO yet. I did eight years in the US Army Reserves, mostly as a 88M (Truck Driver). I got out through no decision of my own by a re-enlistment ban on April 20, 2012. It has taken me until not all that long ago to realize that a career in Law Enforcement was were I would be of the greatest assistance to my fellow Americans. I am 29, in the process of a divorce (Yep, got that knocked out before being LEO...) with a five year old son. I live in Florida, and am attending school not related to LEO which I will finish on April 25, 2014. I plan on going to a CJ program and getting a B.A./B.S. Still confused as to which it is for Criminal Justice. Once done with that, I am off to try and worm my way into an Academy that is with an agency of some sort. I don't mind loosing pay to start to get a good handle on my new career. I would rather be a "rookie" for extra time learning the ropes than be "that guy" who messes everything up thinking his degree is more than a piece of paper. No idea what state I will be doing this in..I have four years to figure that out. But if anyone has any ideas for areas or states, feel free to let me know. And most importantly..I will ask questions, but I will attempt to find the answer BEFORE asking the same thing that hundreds have already asked. If I goof up and ask one anyways..I apologize in advance. Well, that takes care of my little into. Thanks to the officers who have already reached out to me and sent friend requests. I look foreward to the day I can wear my uniform with pride and stand next to you all on the blue line.

Sincerely,

      Andrew Hampton

And since I forgot to put this in there, my deepest thanks to all of you who have watched the home front while my brothers and sisters in arms were overseas. Stay safe and stay frosty.

Thank you for your service also -- and good luck on a career in LE.  I did 20 years active duty (US Army MP) and now 22 years as a Deputy Sheriff.   Relax - take it one step at a time - focus on your degree then move forward.  Degrees are important as they can open many doors.

Welcome to PL.  As was said, one step at a time.  For your interest there are job postings on this site and if you go into Military.com, they also have job postings for vets.  I see a lot of LEO jobs advertised.  Thanks for your service, I was 22 years military Police and worked in logistics.  I branch detailed to TC and served as an 88D prior to retiring.  You call we haul!  Good luck in your pursuit...

Thanks guys! I will certainly be taking everything one step at a time. I just have to make sure my past won't hold me up. If it does, I will find another way to serve. Sadly, serving the people is all I know. No other job brings the satisfaction of knowing I did my part, and I can hold my head up high and proud. (That's why I will never work fast food again. Absolutely NO honor to flipping burgers...I don't care what people say.) I'm getting off here. 48 hours with a two hour nap. I'm going to catch another couple before jumping back on here and reading more. Have a good one guys. Thanks to all the vets who led the way. Stay safe and frosty.

Talk about a warm welcome! You folks know how to make someone new feel welcome. My thanks for all the warm welcomes coming from you guys. And I do realize previous service will be in my favor. But I am aware that I will be going against LOTS of other people to get my coveted slot. But I will still give it everything I have. I'm off to go take care of that pesky thing called life. You all have a wonderful day, a great weekend, and stay safe and frosty.
