I love walking in the woods when the foliage is at its peak.

As pumpkin does not come as my favorite foods, it is a little overwhelming to find it EVERYWHERE.

Give me a mulled cider anytime.

I have to make one EXCEPTION.

my favorite design is

DRUMROLL PLEASE

THE PUKING PUMPKIN

seen in my album

My first Mother in law, who took me under her wonderful kind wings, as I arrived in the US.

She had the best ever Thanksgiving traditions.

Her younger daughter had 7 children, and I remember her visits to be the most fun, The turkey, roasting all day, every family member bringing a dish to share. Even the efforts to save a newborn puppy runt with CPR.

All   the love caring

the men watching Sports and dozing off.

We gathering in the kitchen to package left overs to give to parting friends and family.

I have never been able to give my family this.

First of all. NO ONE LIKES TURKEY, and I seem to be working every Thanksgiving .

LOL

One of my enjoyable traditions in fall (and again in spring time,) is to change some of the gear in my EDC (every day carry) and get home bag which is different from my bug out bag. This bag is what i carry with me in and out of the house to work and in my vehicle when i am out and about.  It has always been my thought that one needed to walk to where ever you were should your vehicle become inoperable or weather or other circumstance should preclude driving home or to safety. Over the last few years, snowstorms on Long Island New York and in the Buffalo region of New York come immediately to mind where roads were shut down due to snowfall amounts and drifts and people were stranded in their vehicles for over 24 hours. My vehicle itself gets a seasonal makeover as well but i will leave that maybe for another time. Now to my EDC/Get home bag:

Out goes my boonie hat with mosquito netting, In goes wool knit hat and fleece neck gator

Out goes bug spray, In goes Lip balm.  Sun screen stays

Out goes leather palmed work gloves, In goes winter EMS (eastern mtn sports) snow gloves with gauntlet and removable fleece liners

Out goes goretex rain suit, In goes Polartec 300 fleece jacket. All of my winter coats are Goretex material whether insulated or just a shell.

Light weight leg and boot gators are traded for North Face winter gators (these gators will keep moisture and bugs off pants legs and critters from getting up  and into shoes during summer and will add layer of insulation and prevent moisture from getting into shoes and again keeping legs dry up to knee in winter.)

midweight hiking socks are exchanged for heavy duty winter Merino wool ski socks

Baskets on my hiking poles are changed from small baskets to powder baskets.  rubber protectors on ice tips are removed

Winter insulated camelbak with insulated hose and mouthpiece is installed replaceing standard camelbak bladder and hose

Three sets of Grabber (these are best) chemical hand and toe heaters are included

Ice axe replaces campsite hatchet (best way to self-arrest down icy hill or embankment) folding saw and K-bar remain

Out goes bathing shorts, In goes set Patagonia capilene long underwear

Ski goggles with yellow (light enhancing) lens replace goggles with green (summer sun) lens

Cat trax (slipover device for shoe soles during ice conditions) are added

Instant hot chocolate mix packs and small bottle chicken buillion cubes added to emergency food bag.  Nutrition bars and freeze dried foods are rotated

All other gear, spare batteries, flashlight and headlamp, firestarter kit, spare pistol ammo, utensils, grade 2 first aid kit, 550 cord, carabiners, MSR rocket stove and fuel canister, cooking cup, leatherman tool, aluminum water bottle, cyalume light sticks, garmin gps and compass are checked and serviced as needed and remain.

ALL THIS FUN PLAYING WITH MY GEAR AND THE SMELL OF SNOW IN THE AIR. It dont get much better than this.

I take inventory of my fall and winter "Go bag" and get it all prepped for the next couple of seasons, then I just kick back and enjoy the onslaught of the cool weather and the colorful changes.  This time of year I like to do a lot of trail walking and riding, so that is my time to decompress...

Elite, it's only been blocked from your eyes, so you won't have so much fun. lol

Fall Go Bag?  I prefer a Fall Go-Go Bag. My favorite item is whatever costume I am going hit the the dance floor in on Halloween.

Mikiesplace, I like your costume especially since I heard you splash on LOTS of cologne for chopping wood!  I do hope you also pack in lots of reading material in that trapper's hut you bivoac in while you are waiting to skin the ermine! ;oP

We're on the same page, Max.  I'll take a big stein full of great German beer over hot liquified coffee-flavored pumpkin pie anytime!  I hope you bring a wild turkey back to the clan!

Thank You Marly ...The Northeast may have the colorful leaves but the Northwest has the best clouds in the Fall!

Also ,Brighteyes the Northwest has the taller mountains ,while the Northeast has the beautiful mountains.Frankly I believe that both areas have their advantages.

Favorite part about fall is the first day of putting on winter beanie/Sherpa hat. I'm just one of those freaks who enjoys the cold.
