On October 2nd, a new cop TV series will debut. It is called "Ironside", starring Blair Underwood. Blair is 49 years old and has had a successful screen and TV career. He's a pretty good actor.

This new show is about a NYPD detective, Robert Ironside, who is confined to a wheelchair after a spinal injury. He sets off to tackle tough cases.

I predict this series will last as long as a birthday candle. A cop who works from his wheelchair at nearly full capacity isn't something that people will really embrace.

From what I've seen, it appears that they are attempting to reinvent the late 60's or early 70's television series by the same name that starred Raymond Burr.  That one was set in San Francisco, but the star was like a Chief Detective working for the Commisioner on "special" cases.  It is currently in reruns on ME TV.  Don't know how many seasons it was on, but it was on for a little while, if memory serves correctly.  Seems that Hollywood is currently incapable of inventing anything new right now so they just go back to some of the ideas that worked. . . .sort of.  Obviously if they had worked out any better originally, then they would still be on.

I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I expect the same from them.

Why not Sarge?  Some of the guys I've worked with aren't in a wheelchair, but haven't been functioning at full capacity for years!

Wasn't there a series on NBC recently, within the past few years, about a Detective with NYPD that went blind while on a call when he was on patrol? If I remember correctly in only lasted one season, not too sure as I've worked evenings for the past few years.

I remember that series; he got shot in the head and went blind as a result. I'd love to see something new but alas, I doubt that Hollywood has it in them.

I'm betting it'll fly.  Depends on the writing.

Now THAT is pretty phunny right there. And we ALL know someone(s) who fits that description.

To Beo.... yeah, I remember that series. Raymond Burr was awesome. The dude was born in 1917! Also the best Perry Mason. Looks like the original Ironside was on from 1967 to 1975. The original Perry Mason ran from 1957 to 1966. When I heard the Perry Mason theme song, I knew it was time for bed.

I remember the old Ironside show with Raymond Burr. Great show, but the new one really hasn't peaked my interest. I have no intrest on remakes of shows especially forty years after the fact.

Nah. A pilot can take off unexpectedly.  A treatment for a bookish chem teacher gone evil meth lab genius sounds pretty hokey too.

It's not a bad premise.  There are only a few old birds who can compare the remake to Raymond Burr's Ironsides.  Perry Mason was better but both of those shows depended on the camera presence of Burr.  And their scriptwriters.  It'll need a lead with the same charisma.  And good situations.

I said the very same thing to my family when I saw the first commercial for this show. Get out of my head, man!!

I, too, remember the original and the comments about Raymond Burr's screen presence are correct. I doubt this show will have the same success. But, who knows? Dumber shows seem to prevail. Nobody thought "Married, With Children" would last either and some people credit it for launching Fox.

NBC has cancelled Ironside, It will air 1 more final episode, and then reruns/specials in its current timeslot until January when the spinoff of Chicago Fire called Chicago PD premieres.

I have been around since the beginning of time and believe that most cop shows have been utterly ridiculous and nowhere close to factual. The best I ever recall was "Police Story" from a number of years ago which I found to be quite accurate.I did of course, like Policewoman with Angie Dickinson.I liked anything and everything with Angie Dickinson. One of the jurisdictions I worked was quite similar to "Car 54 Where Are You."

I guess other than NCIS (which I confess I haven't watched in quite awhile either), I'm the odd ball cop that doesn't like any cop shows?

Nope LU, odd ball; I think not!  All the NCIS's are good with me.  One that really pisses me off is Low Winter Sun on AMC. I hate crooked cop shows!
