 Good morning all,

I have a quick question regarding the PAT administered by the Florida Highway Patrol. I am taking mine on Saturday, September 21st and am wondering if it only consists of the 6 minute and 4 second course, or if there are other tasks to be completed. Also if you have any advice to give to me that would help me physically. I have been training for the past couple of months so that I am in decent shape for the test. Your help is appreciated, thank you very much!

I'll give you a hint on what you will probably hear back from everyone.

Didn't they already tell you when you put in the application packet?

I not only know that the website gives you a step by step break down of the test, but it also gives it to you in picture form.

I'm a bit worried that you don't have more concern  about this very important phase... Oh well, if you don't care, then I won't either.

First of all, if some of you read the post and paid any attention to it I asked if there was anything OTHER THAN the 6:04 test that is displayed by pictures on beatrooper.com.

Second, I'm pretty sure running 3 miles a day, running up bleachers to improve my leg strength on a every other day basis, doing core training and weight training is caring about the test. For some reason my post was taken as if I don't give 1 damn about what I am getting into. Just looking for more info so that I can make sure I am training correctly.

if anyone here would like to actually pay attention to my post and give me advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

On the web site they give you each and every task title that you are expected to perform and instructions on how each and every one must be completed. All those tasks are to be completed in 6:04. Other than the interview, physical exams and so on, there are no other tasks. I dont understand what you are looking for. I suggest you copy and paste the task and there instructions on a word document, print them off and do your training based off that. This is not rocket science, you need to apply at the space center for that!

Dbolden969, I can understand how job app tension might cause you to worry an unmentioned task might be tacked on.  As you see here, LEOs express confidence the website gives the full scoop. Call the department to verify.

Looks like you know how to train yourself well.  I would think it can only help if you expand your work-out to increase flexibility.  Your local community college has coaches there who might have some tips since many student atheletes go out for LE careers.

As to your remark you intend to be in "decent shape" - I would cut you some slack.  "Decent" can be a modest way of saying intending to be "excellent."  Next time, just bump it up to intending to be in "good shape" and everyone will know you are "intending to be ripped."  lol

Members here at PL always encourage self-reliance in a blunt way.  Think of it as a love tap.  lol

You are attempting to over think this. Just do what they ask you to do in under the time allotted for each test. Keep in mind to do the best you can and that thee is no such thing as being an overachiever out there at your PAT. Best of luck to you.

You can't cure stupid.

MarlyB and Ajsdaddy, I appreciate your responses. I do tend to over think and was just quadruple checking to make sure there wasn't anything that I overlooked or if there were other tasks other than the course that I'd have to complete on that day. Again I thank you two for the input!

You have a recruiter/background investigator, ask him/her what all is involved on the day of the PAT test. FHP is trying to fill classes, so they're not going to set you up for failure.

I had to chuckle some at this post. Some applicants work hard and devote lots of time to prepare. Then you have the applicants who come in and appear as if they lived under a bridge for a few days or been on a week long bender and ace. My advice is take a deep breath and relax. Sometimes the clean slate is the best.

I just want to make sure you guys understand how devoted I am to this. I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time now (at least a few years, I'm only 24). I am preparing myself to be at the top of the list. I used the Florida Basic Abilities Test Study Guide to my advantage and on Friday I passed that test with a 91% . I am looking to have an outstanding performance at the Physical Abilities Test on the 21st. I'm in the best shape I have been in my whole life. My motivation is on another level right now, I've never been this motivated for anything before. I'm sorry that I took offense to some of your posts...I don't want you guys to mistake me for a "I'm just gonna show up and see what happens" kinda guy.

No I took it at Valencia Community College in Orlando. Passed with a time of 4:52, which could've been better had I not messed up.

Sorry everyone I have been pretty busy lately and off the forum. Today I was down in Fort Myers taking the Polygraph Exam. I was 100% truthful about EVERYTHING. Though I do not have my results, I am confident that I will move on to the psych evaluation next.
