What makes you really enjoy your job? If there was anything you could change what would it be? What type of traits do you need to possess to work in this environment?

Why not schedule a ride along? That would be a good opportunity to axe questions.

Will do so, only found it better to get a variety of opinions before riding along. I might not get the most opinionated trooper. Appreciate the advice anyway.

Bump my friend Uncledennis.I don't believe you will find a plethora of troopers on this link.If yo do not already possess the traits, characterics etc., of a trooper or any type of leo one doesn't get them by praying for them.wishing for them or working on them.Don't mean to sound flipant or like a wiseA$$,but we are what we are.Give you a few well known hints, again ,not trying to be cute.

1.You must be able to handle any type situation which presents itself, especially as a trooper,as your nearest back-up may be a hundred miles ,or so ,away.

2.You must gain or already have confidence in yourself and your abilities, without being arrogant.

3.You must, above all, realize that being a leo is most definately NOT a "Dirty Harry movie or a "Chips" episode.

4.You must NOT be squeemish about seeing a dead tyke,a person killed by a shotgun from 12" away.a five vehicle fatal vahicle collision with all bodies in varied pieces.

5.Youmust know how and will be taught to start breathing, stop bleeding and basically multi-task,quite frequently.

6.You will be taught to deliver babies,I did two of them in my career

7.You MUST smile and do your utmost to deal with blithering idiots, whom you will deal with frequently.

8.You must NOT expect a slug of commendations, but just figure you are doing your job.

9.The thanks you get will be your psyche,at the end of the shift ,allowing you to smile and know you did the best you could, which is all anyone could expect of you.

A few other important things.

1.Treat everybody with respect.

2.Do not ever get in anyones space.

3.The decisions you make may save your or someone elses life.

4.This job requires more good judgement than any other on earth.

SE that was very insightful and pretty much what I wanted to know, thanks for the input. Will post about how my ride along goes. As for Donna, then any further questions should be covered with them

I enjoy the flowers.

And, hey, all you LEO's are all troopers. You may not wear a compaign hat but yeah, you're a trooper.

"Car #54 Where Are You" was pretty appropriate for the jurisdictions I worked.I would really rather have worked my career partroling the beaches with Pamela Anderson.
