I am a criminal justice major in need of an experienced officer's time. I must complete an interview and compose an essay from that interview for my class. The subject of the paper is based on ethics in the field. If anyone has time, please email me. I would appreciate your time very much. Ralphlauren0806@yahoo.com

Respectfully,

Sierah

Ralphlauren0806 -"Sierah", I have observed that, generall,y LEOs here, like to know a person before they may agree to be interviewed.

LEOS often suggest students call their local police departments.

If you think about it, most anybody would be hesitant to give a written or phone interview to someone out of the vast 'cyber-blue.' Contact your local police department and request an interview.  Name your project, school and teacher.  You can usually schedule an appointment with a Community Resource Officer or other officer.  Sometimes an officer will agree to be interviewed over the phone.

In any case, since LEOs work busy shifts. It might be a day or two before a specific officer youcontact gets back to arrange an interview with himself or another officer.  The reception desk will schedule something soon if you show up in person at the counter.

That is, unless you waited too long and your assignement is due shortly.  BTW, LEOs here will be interested to know what other research you have done for your essay.

You might also want to post an introduction in Introductions.

Odd first post. Marly is so correct. Go to your local cop shop and do a one on one interview. You are cutting corners which doesn't set well with us that did it correctly. Hope your interview is not last minute.

I recall my final class to graduate with my BS Degree was to interview top management personnel from three agencies. Even though I was a chief of police at the time I conducted personal interviews and sent letters of appreciation to their supervisor. Knowing them personally I could have handled it by phone and chose to do it the correct way. DO NOT cut corners. This is a character reflection.

For one of my projects I interviewed cops of all kinds - civilians too.  Mostly, I let them all talk.  The best interviews?  Let people talk.

I got a LOT of anecdotal information which helped me understand a LOT about how law enforcement works.  And a LOT of the challenges to keeping a town safe.

I walked neighborhoods.  A lot.  And drove them.

You might call it a... 'ride-along' of sorts.  One where I could stop anytime and grab a sandwich.

I decided to glean most of the material out of my report.  For brevity, etc.

Your report will be as general or as original as you make it.  But you have to work.  Get to know your town.

Way to go Marly.

Doc

P.S.: An Introduction would be kind of nice, as well.
