Hello!

This is my first time on PL and so far from what I have been reading, it is a very informative site. I have been looking at going into law enforcement for a while now, but I let others tell me a direction I needed to take instead of taking the direction I wanted.

I am 33 now, so starting a little late on that direction. My husband is a huge supporter of my decision, which means so much to me. So with his support and my determination, I have decided to finally pursue a career in law enforcement. I know it is not going to be an easy task, but I am looking forward to the challenge.

I have completed my Associates and I am in the process of working on my Bachelor's in Criminal Justice with a minor in Cyber Security. I am doing as much research as I can to see what is the best route for me to go. Any advice is welcome!

Welcome to Police Link, from Ohio!!

Don't allow your age to be a factor. At 33, you have some life experience and maturity behind you, which will help you out in the performance of your duties and dealing with the public.

Best wishes in your endeavors!!

 Howdy.

We can see by your first posting that you have a unique set of circumstances.

Tell us more: What do you really want to do in law enforcement? What is it you are trying to accomplish? What is your end game? What type of work do you see yourself doing in LEO-Land?

That kinda stuff.

Welcome to PL from another Ohioan.  Don't let your age be a concern.  As 36TR has said, you have some life experience that can only help you.  Best of luck to you.

When I was first looking into law enforcement I was really interested in Conservation LE, I wanted to help protect the animals and environment.  I also want to be able to help people as well. My main interest is into the investigative side of LE.

I figured researching and talking with those in the different divisions and working on my degree will help give me a more permanent approach as to what department I would like to join. My husband is overseas (military) right now, so I am at a little stand still till he returns, so it gives me the time I need.

My main goal is to eventually be at a Federal level of LE. I know this will take time and that is okay because I am willing to work for it. So right now all I can say is that I am taking it one day at a time. I am going to learn as much as I can.

Welcome to PL.  Good luck in your pursuit, most federal eligibility ends at 37 YOA.  There may be a waiver, but its not going to be much more with the current cuts they are doing now.  600 federal agents nation wide and territory, which isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it all adds up...

Thank you for the information. I was wondering if they had an age that eligibility ends. I will keep that in mind....It may not be in my future, but that is okay, always good to have some kind of goal. I am more concern with making a difference and helping others then I am swiftly moving up the ranks, anyhow.

Might I suggest Collvm that if you don't become a sworn leo there are numerous civilian positions available, withen the law enforcement community which are interesting and vital to that establishment. These would include municiupal, county ,state and federal jobs. You are to be commended for continuing your college degree work.
