I don't understand some thing, I was watching something on AOL news and they had this rapper I think it wa a rapper to go through force feeding like at Guantanamo, I don't understand why they would force feed them if they don't wabnt to eat then let them starve anyhow I watched this of the rapper but I felt he was making more of it they have to put a tube down his nose I am sure it is not the most pleasent thing to do. But I have seen this on a ER show on TV and they didn't make such a stink. And can someone educate me as to why if inmates or in Guantanamo they would even think of force fedding I can understand why they do this if they were unable to eat but on a hunger strike it would be one lass person in prison in the USA that the tax payers are paying for. my question is why force feed them?

Several different reasons I could think of: human rights groups/activists would be in an uproar if we let them starve. It puts the prisoner to further shame being forcefed, especially if the hunger strike is over some religious reasoning.

Also, you have to think, inside prison we have a ton of drug offenders who are not necessarily bad people, just addicts. However if a strike like this is going on, and they do not participate, then they would probably be beat up. So for their own safety they participate in the hunger strike. Do those individuals deserve to simply starve?

However, the question is mostly inconsequential: the majority will probably eat before they would die.

I was entertained by the original poster's remark about "...I have seen this on an ER show on TV". That's rich.

I hear ya Sarge, it does not get any better than that!
