I think that this boils down to how society has changed in the last 20 years.... very sad but true!  Yes there are a lot more troubled people in the world for sure!

Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today’s world do not have.

Bump Leah.  Things have definitely gone downhill in the last generation.  Lot more crazy and stupid everywhere, and not nearly enough asylums for all of them.

...and those are just the folks that wear the uniform - not even counting all the *really* wacked-out peeps!

This.  Let you tell it, LeahC.

In fact, I propose that maybe...given the mortgage crisis and unemployment, the wars and shrill political upheaval, the tumultuous environmental crises...the hunger, fear and bloodshed...their combined deleterious effect on morale...on our societies' physical, emotional and mental health...not to mention the deep, pervasive, spiritual malaise and grinding despair...just maybe...

MAYBE it's testimony to the GENERAL GOOD OF MANKIND and the GRACE OF GOD that EVERYONE has NOTgone beserk in the streets, that there are good people everywhere who gird up and go into the fray to perform acts great and small for the betterment of us all and that each day, in so many ways, we find the best of the angels within us.  In LOVE.

Amen, my brothers and sisters.  Amen.

you are correct. people cannot control themselves and they most definitely need help. that's why law enforcement is critical in any town, city, state or country. it's ok, as long as we have law enforcement things will be a lot better than you see them as they are now, as hard as that is to believe. LE professionals are reading the news too. The world is sad, but also can be inspiring. you just need to know where to look. :)

Thank you I have noticed that their is crime and sucide rates of all time.

What's wrong with some people?

1) Personal morals are decaying

2) Decline in the family institution

3) Prayer taken out of  schools

My parents were my role models. They stayed positive and instilled the knowledge that integrity comes from taking personal responsibility. They also taught my brothers, sisters, and me to have empathy and compassion. These are the traits my wife and I pass down to our children so they can be productive members of society.

THIS RIGHT HERE.........

I saw it coming in its infancy in the late 70's and early 80's.  This whole fecal matter mentality of not being able to call a spade a spade with regards to behaviors, choices and rewards over consequences when someone does something wrong or bad because we don't want to hurt their widdle feewings.  My parents, more specifically my mother held me accountable to four (4) basic rules.  They are interchangeable and it does not matter which order they are in because if one is out of sync, the others are not far behind or are already out of sync also.  In school, I remember the paddle hanging on the wall.  I didn't need to test the water to know that the paddle could come off of the wall and be applied appropriately to my fleshy hindquarters.  I also knew because of the rules of accountability which my parents held me to, I would get it twice more upon my arrival to the house, by both mom and dad.  And my parents did not care about what outcome the other involved parties would get or what roles they may have played in the event(s) I participated in, how ever slight, that landed me in trouble..... only my participation regardless how slight.  What are the four (4) rules of accountability?

ALWAYS BE FOUND:

1) IN THE RIGHT PLACE

2) AT THE RIGHT TIME

3) WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE

4) DOING THE RIGHT THINGS

Whatever is left of manners in the form of common civility expressed in our public places might be the only glue holding society together.

That alone is a terrifying thought.

Actually, this topic should be titled "What's wrong with everybody"  not "every BODY."  Although, if the OP doesn't get back soon, I propose we hijack this thread and throw in our true opinons on bodies.

First, BUMP my friend MarlyB. You have a great take on this.

Second, Let me propose a different explanation...

Perhaps it's not so much that things have gotten worse. If memory serves, we've had varying amounts of public unrest and turmoil throughout history. I believe the introduction of new technology, the proclivity of instant news breaks, and the shrinking of the world through satellite feeds and cellular technology has exposed us to so much more negative input than our ancestors. I think it was always this way but the word never got around as much nor as fast.

Hey I heard on the news today that the economy is getting better even though the interest rate is rising. So it is not all bad according to the news media we are all ok. YEAH RIGHT....We need prayer back in school along with the board of education. a lot of kids now days have no respect for themselves much less anyone else. It does not take a village to raise a child it takes parents. 1 or 2 it does not matter just be responsible and direct your children not abuse. Children crave direction and guidance we as adults have to give it to them.

A respectful child makes a respectful adult and thus a respectful community and nation. God bless America!!!

Consider this as part of the heaping of responses.

Textured into all y'all's observations, everyone can know everything in the twinkling of an eye. Thank you, Internet. Peeps in the past may not have known all the doin's in the next county let alone the next country.

So, along with personal and problems nearby, people feel the tension of everyone else's problems because they are all part of the 24-hour news cycle.
