Police Impostery?

 Hello LEO's !

I won't be super active in this site. However, I have a serious question and I would really appretiate it if you could help me out. Before I get to the question ill introduce myself, I am an Sgt in a police explorer program in my area, I am 16 and have been in this post for about 2 years. For the reason being of the question, I chose not to say what agency for their safety. It is my responsibilty that our explorers represent the agency in a professional manner to prepare them for their goal (and mine) to do phenominal when they reach 21 and are leaving the post and testing to become a sworn officer.

Question: A female in my post has been having attitude issues lately, and has been very disrespectful to me and LT. On her social network picture, she took a picture of herself while wearing our uniform (Note: the uniforms look exactly the same as the officers except it has an explorer patch instead of a badge). Already, that is not being complient to the guidelines. In the picture, she has a police radio around her that she got from a relative or something, NOT FROM US. Lastly, the explorer badge is covered and out of site so you can not tell whether it is a explorer patch or a police badge. I was wondering what measures should be taken with this? And is it some form of police impostery?

I really would appretiate the advice! I have been researching it, and got nothing. So I was wondering if I can have some mentors and police officers help me out? Thanks!!

Have you tried discussing this with the Police Officer in charge of your program?

Yes sir, they "have a lot to deal with" and completely ignored me. So, I just wanted some advice from hopefully an officer who can listen.

Relax and take a deep breath. Document and send it up the chain. Your involvement ends at that point.

police impostery..WHAT is that?!  do you mean impersonation? If that is what you are asking than my guess would be no but I'm not sure what your state laws are. But yea just taking a photo in a uniform is not impersonation...you're an explorer "Sgt" so shouldn't you know the laws in your own state?? As for your issues with this explorer my advise is for you to find something better to do with yourself. I mean really she took a picture in the uniform and a radio.

Like Ocampo and UncaD said, document it like you're suppose to and send it up the chain. It may not be impersonation as mentioned by NavyCop, but (depending on the photo) it doesn't necessarily portray your Explorer Post in the best light. Submit it to your OIC and let them take it from there.

As far as her attitude, two things: Let your LT handle it (that's his job) and get used to it. If/When you become an officer, you may have to deal with "Attitude" on a regular basis.

You darn guys/gals.  What right do you have giving the youngster good advice.  Now look what you did.  By not providing the answer he/she was looking for he/she went and ran off.  You should be ashamed of yourselves.

I may be way off base here, but I do see a problem with her actions especially on a public website.  Clearly she is a minor, and presenting herself as something that she is not, or making it appear that way.  Now my question is this, for what purpose is she doing it?  Also at what point do you draw the line when someone impressionable, and clearly not abiding by the rules or parameters set by the agency.  We all talk about how new officers are entering the force with "entitlement issues".  It almost seems to me that by not reporting the problem is not only encouraging bad behavior but condoning it as well...

Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today’s world do not have.

As was said, it is up to the agency affected by the action to determine how they will handle it.

What did she do that was wrong?...if she posted a picture of her doing something stupid or making the agency look bad..(which I have seen a lot of cops do on facebook with their pics) than I understand. But if she just posted a pic of herself than big deal...maybe she is proud of being an explorer or something..it was an explorer uniform not a police uniform so I for one do not see the issue unless there was more to the picture than what was said. Also the patch badge was out of view..not that she was intentionally covering it or manipulating it to look like a police badge. This explorer "Sgt" comes off to me as one of those stick up his @ss types and I have worked with plenty of those in my time so I understand if she has an attitude towards them.
