MSNBC, just read a letter from MIT's PO Sean Collier's family. Hard to watch.  Neighbors are cheering on BPD and Tactical Teams

Regarding squeezing.  What makes the diff between 'how you feel and what you must get' --- training, training, training.

6:15PM NPR Continues...Interview with Robert McFadden SUFAN GROUP

Raw notes taken simultaneous with broadcast -

How do you question him?  Paramount - if injured - take care of it.  Not just for practical reasons, but because that's how it's done.  If lucid, a team will begin.  They will want to know what other events are in play to disrupt and take down.  Co-conspiritors?  Next, a time-line.

Co-conspiritors?  A track record of such talking about?  Information being fed in informs the line of questioning.  Think of it as a helicopter circling a target, a few passes then homing in.  If there is no rapport from the git go...more difficult...costs time.  A Level team goes in...sometimes it isn't working...(reporter closes on notion of going back to the bullpen to get the best results).

This kid hid in a boat like a coward probably even wet his pants.  With his brother out of the equation, I think he's going to sing like a canary.

Friends, I would like to thank all the ordinary folk out there who marshalled their efforts as best they could to try to help our partnered law enforcement agencies in their investigation of this unspeakable crime.

I know in my heart that Good Samaritanism, in partnership with law enforcement professionalism, formed the basis for the apprehension of these suspects.

Notes from the Press Conference /  from Police Statement - Apparently, on Franklin Street, a man exited his house into the backyard after hearing could go outside, saw blood around the boat there, lifted the tarp and saw the suspect there covered in blood, then notified the police.  The suspect was not communicative as negotiators tried to talk him out of the boat.

MIT officer was assassinated in his cruiser.

"We certainly did not give an all clear"... "He managed to elude us by being just slightly out of the perimeter that we set up"..."There's no report of explosives with him"...(regarding exchange last night, in terms of volume, etc., "viturally unheard of").

Regarding Miranda...a federal issue.  Re: US Attorney Carmen Ortiz - Claiming Public Safety Exemption re: national security and acts of terrorism.

Colonel Timothy Alban (sp) - Suspect was apprehended about a block away from the perimeter and picked up on FLIR.

GOOD JOB to all those involved in the ultimate capture of this POS!  I also doubt he will talk right away either. . . . . .what does he have to lose now?  His brother is dead and his family will only get to see him what. . . .once a month?  Unless some "creative interrogation" is used. . . . .what does he have to lose?

Now to a more important point. . . . . .the why?  WHY did he and his brother do this?  Was this because he and his brother were protesting something?  Nothing has been said about "demands" or "complaints" about something. . . .or someone. . . .or some group.  OR, was this a test of the police in Boston?  Let's face it, while the marathon has many officers in and around it. . . . . .it is still considered a soft target.  We have just been shown how soft that target was.  With the almost non-stop news about what was happening, if this was about an exercise by some group, this group would have had a front row seat with the news as to the timing and tactics of the law enforcement officials involved.  THUS, they have their "free" research.  If there was not a group handling these young men. . . . . .everyone else around the world has received a whole bunch of results on the response of a large U.S. city in response to a hit on a soft target.

May Heaven please help us.  WHEN are our police departments going to start holding back information and restricting access by the news to the tactics that are used because they work. . . . that is until the "bad guys" learn of the tactics used to prosecute them and then change their modus operandi so law enforcement has to then change the tactics. . . . .again.  It is rather embarrassing to see the public information officer almost gloating over the tactics used to apprehend so and so.  WHY?  Just so they can get a good pat on the back for their department?

I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I expect the same from them.

Beowulf you make a lot of good points.  I agree with a lot of what you say.  The only thing we can hope is that Dzhokhar, wounded, run to ground, captured, in shock and fear, maybe he'll come to his senses.  After all, nobody is clipping his nipples off with a pair of nail clippers because I am here at the keyboard busy typing!

I dunno.  As a civilian, I look at this case, however, and I think...well...the FBI basically did what it always does, but with a larger reach via crowdsourcing, astute use of the media, etc to create a more expansive type of BOLO channel leading to a report line.  And to help produce a very cooperative community from what it looks like.

The FBI  was essentially sweeping the internet for clues. What better way to silence some of the noise that was interfering with the investigation than to issue an authorized set of photos so as to direct the deluge of photo-related tips traffic through authorized channels?  It's all pretty fascinating,  Maybe we'll never know the barest logistics ot that  facet of the investigation.  An investigation still in progress.

Yes the FLIR use or lack thereof close to the perimeter is surprising.  But perhaps there too were factors in play we may never know about.  Factors which precluded bringing in a chopper into that vicinity until the time was... perfect??

As for curfewing the town...then lifting the curfew...it had the predictable outcome of flushing out the suspect, sure.  I am certain a  LOT of toys and techniques were tested on that whole operation.  So...maybe now Boston, at least as an OJT model, is not ever to be such a soft target as it once was??  In any case, a LOT of useful law enforcement information has been gathered and will be put to use.  Information regarding shot-calling, timing, intelligence management...all sorts of stuff.  Right?  For the investigation still in progress?

Maybe that is part of the reason for all the congratulations.

Ahhh !!! Don't we all love what George Bush called the religion of love and peace?By the act of the 19 year old running over the body of his own brother displays ,to me,what value these people put on a fellow humans life.At the point that that happened ,who knew if the brother was dead or not? Also strapping bombs to the bodies of juveniles as they have done,in many countries, over the years ,displays to me that this is a heathen ,animalistic cult rather than any form of religion.Yet these freaks want to construct a mosque in the area of the Twin Towers and our brain dead government,be they Republican or Democrat ,still gives billions of OUR TAX MONEY,yearly to those Mid Eastern governments who sanction such atrocities and still despise us..Am I the only one who is capable of seeing the insanity of this total bull $hit.

Many kudos and thanks to all the heroes in Boston this last week. Being from New England gives Boston a special place in my heart. I spent a lot of time there before moving to the left coast. I was at Fenway in September. I love this city. My prayers for all in Boston. Huge bump to ssu459.
