Poll: What is my chance of becoming an officer?

Hey I am currently in college and i was recently caught with a fake id. I received a letter in the mail stating that my license will be suspect on a specific date and I had a court date but i had an exam that day so i could not make it. I called the court many times and was on hold for hours but got no response. I also sent out two e mail to different parts of the court house. I want to know what my chances of becoming a cop with fraud on my driving record. Also the way the ID was found at the time did not make sense to me because they opened up a door into a dorm room and pulled me out of bed while taking my wallet. Thats how they found the fake ID. What should I do?

Integrity ( both personal and professional ) is everthing in the Law Enforcement world. Hoping you can get things cleared up, but possesong a fake ID and missing a court date related to that incident will not look good on a resume'.

It is a registrar and the only reason i would go to the hearing is to defend myself.

Consult with an attorney. How would we know the answer?

First off, I didn't know Fraud could be classified as a Traffic Charge.  Fraud is usually charged as a criminal violation. Sounds like you need to talk to a lawyer.  No one one this site is going to provide you with legal advise.

I was pulled out of bed by a campus police officer. The door of the room was unlocked but the door was shut so all they had to do was turn the dorm room handle and it would open. They were looking for me prior to this because of kids being loud in another dorm room and i was one of the people mentioned. I was literally sleeping in the bed and they kept shaking me to wake me up and i didn't so the campus police officer pulled my head up and then the two officers place me on the floor putting me on my stomach. This is when they went into my pockets searched me and took my wallet and searched through that also. Don't I have a right to give an officer my own id? When i talked to a lawyer he mentioned i will have fraud on my driving record for possesion of a fake id.

So many questions. Why was it so hard for you to wake up? Why was your name mentioned in reference to the loud dorm room? Why would they pull you out of bed, place you face down on the floor and search you?

Were they looking for the fake ID to begin with? Do you have the fake ID to purchase alcohol underage?

As mentioned by JIMROC, "Fraud" is a criminal offense, not a traffic offense (at least in Ohio). Did you talk to an actual Lawyer? Or did you confide in someone studying law or even a paralegal? Contact a Real Attorney, be completely and totally honest with them about the circumstances. Include the circumstances you are leaving out here.

As far as legal advice, the attornies that may be on this site will not give you free advice, escpecially since details seem to be missing and laws vary from state to state.

Your post seems to jump around all over the place so let me see if I have this straight.  The police (campus police) were called because of a noise complaint where your name was mentioned as being a participant and they contact you inside of your dorm room.  During the investigation, they found you to be in possession of a false ID that was found (by your own admission) to be in your wallet.  You were subsequently arrested, your license was SUSPENDED and you were given a court date which you failed to appear for.  Your excuse for not appearing is that you had a test.

My question for you is:  Why would you have a "fake ID" other than to get into places (i.e. BARS) and or to do things where because of your age (my guess under 21), you would be otherwise prohibited (i.e. Underage Drinking of Alcohol), or present yourself to be someone other than yourself (using a false name and date of birth) in an attempt to avoid the "REAL YOU" from taking responsibility for your actions?

Like others, I am of the opinion that there is way more to this story than how you presented it to us.  The police did not just come to your dorm room looking for you for no particular reason.  They had a reason and it was you having been named in a noise complaint. (Who wants to make a bet that alcohol played a role?)

Back to your question:  What is your chance of becoming an (police) officer?

Because you willingly and knowingly failed to appear for your court date, you probably have a FTA (Failure To Appear) warrant for your arrest in addition to your previously stated problems.  SUCKS TO BE YOU........  The court does not care if you had a test or exam on the same day as your court date.  If it really mattered to you, then you should have gone to the court prior to your court date to see if you could either take care of the issue pending before the court early or, attempted to get an extension that would allow you to appear at a later date.  You did neither and just blew it off since you could not get anyone on the phone.

Your actions and your excuses give the appearance that you have no intention of taking any responsibility what-so-ever for your actions.  Because of ALL of these things (and probably more if one were to even conduct a background investigation on you), your actions show that you are not capable of making the kinds of choices and decisions in your current private life that would meet the minimum standards required of LE anywhere, I would say that your chances of becoming LE at this stage of your life (if ever) are at 0%.

Much sage advice by my good friends en re to this thread.May I add one more item of interest. In my jurisdiction a failure to appear in court to answer any charges resulted in a bench warrant issued the same day court was missed ,for said person charging him/her with Contempt Of Court. This generally resulted in a thirty day visit to the Grey Bar hotel.

Well the fake id as fraud depends on your state. It seems that there is some information that you are leaving out as many others have pointed to.

SOME???????? Either a gross understatement to the extreme or you are giving the benefit of a very HUGE doubt to this guy.

Speaking of which......... Where is the OP a.k.a. College_Student?  We have had a rash of this type of question on the forums the last couple of days...... I wonder if we might have a troll or a few trolls.  Guess we will have to wait and see.

Wow...how about an Identity Theft charge or maybe False Informing charges for the fake ID?  I have never heard of Fraud charges being filed against a person for fake ID.  Unless he stole the ID and was trying to cash checks or something w/ it?!

So many questions, so little information provided.  The OP almost certainly has a warrant for FTA, an easily avoided situation by requestion a posponment, or entering a 'not guilty ' plea.   This was almost certainly a preliminary hearing and would have involved 2 hrs of waiting for 5 minutes before the judge..  Time to give up on policelink and consult with a lawyer, this is not attorneylink.  And unlike here, your lawyer will need all the facts and information, not just snippets.

I don't know if any departments will deal with you.  While having possession of a fake id is a misdemeanor it is still fraud.  There are many recruits that do not have fraud on their record.  Also they do not have a failure to appear on their record.   I hope you did not forge the fake id yourself because that is a seperate deal, which is a felony.  You are in college pursuing a police career.  So you thought that having a fake id just to score some booze was cool? If you call the court some municipalities will give you an extension although an exam excuse does not seem valid. I would rather take an F on an exam than receiving a failure to appear.   If you ever made it to the interview phase it would probably go along the lines of....

Interviewer: "There is the charge of fraud and a failure to appear on your record.  Can you elaborate on this please?"

College_student: "It was the damnest thing sir, i just wanted the booze I could not wait until I was of legal age, and then I just had to take this exam so I skipped court instead of calling them and asking for a later court date.

College Student does state,in one of his posts that he has consulted with an attorney. From what we have gleened thus far and the lack of info from college student,I'm inclined to believe that perchance either the attorney isn't too terribly bright or he is holding out on college student till he's paid a retainer.

The fact that you even ask this type of question on this site shows you already must have known the answer. Do you really believe you're Police Officer material with false ID and failure to appear? Only you can answer that question.

I think it's funny that College Student was passed out so hard the police couldn't wake him up.  Then the police had to hold his head up and put him on his stomach on the floor. But he still saw the police doing all that stuff in his room!

And remembered it!

And writes about it in a public forum on a law enforcement website!!
