RAMPAYJER says ...

I want replies from EXPERIENCED people, not people that are just going to scold me like MarlyB.

Be careful what you ask for Mr RAMPAYJR....... you may get it in spades.

As stated in other threads in related topics, you knew or should have known that the choice to consume marijuana could be a deal breaker in your pursuit of a career in law enforcement, its legality in your state (Washington) not withstanding.  In your own words, you screwed up royally.  You will now find out the hard way that in this profession, you will be judged by the choices you make.

@ssu459 I used RAMPAYJER as my name because it is my Xbox Live gamertag. I simply used it because it is easy for me to remember. I don't consider myself a "rampager."The first email I got from this website used the word cop so unless you have anything constructive to say to me that is on topic then please leave this thread.

You are a disrespectful child.  Apologize to ssu459.  YOU are new here.  Watch your step or you will be tripping down our's after being shown the door.  I don't get this generation.  SMH

The OP sent me a PM and axed how to delete his post. He then went dark so I could not respond.

He wanted responses from "experienced people" and not people that were just going to scold him.  He may not have liked it but he got exactly what he asked for.

SkoolCop, I didn't like this thread because it looked like the OP was fielding responses to discover the best format to render his past drug use irrelevant to a screening process.  His casual self-castigation looked to me like a gratuitous ploy.

It's like the OP saw his marijuana use as a 'time-sensitive' 'solely legal' issue - one where LEOs here should take his intentions on face value and 'vend advice' without presenting any challenges to his integrity.  In other words,

"Given my noble aspirations, granting my integrity as unassailable, and skirting the issue of getting high for fun as a very recent part of my lifestyle, what do I need to do to look good?  Will joining the military help expunge my past record of personal risk-taking, etc.  Can anyone give me a pattern to model after?"

Also, he never mentioned his current line of work, or any other indicator that might show a genuine interest in serving our country apart from the convenience it represented.  A lot of civilians don't like to see that.

LEOs were helpful anyway because he is young and can change.  But when he was challenged as to his intentions and lifestyle, he got mean.  In this way, he triple-underscored himself as an indignant opportunist.   Now it's true he is young and not too bright.  But a general hostility toward authority read through loud and clear.

But then...I'm just a civilian who doesn't want this type representing the State in court.  So who am I to judge?

ssu459, I use the word 'cop' all the time in threads, but interchange the term with LEO.  I think it depends on who you are directing your remarks to and what you intend.  But...hmmm have to think about that one.  I will PM you.

RAMPAYJER, ok, your username is easy for you to remember.  Manners aren't, apparently.  A respected law enforcement officer in this community took objection to the immaturity of your choice of username.  Fine, you disagree.  But your reaction is very telling about your character.  Throughout this thread you come across as immature - a risk-taker, a self-ingratiating opportunist and an arrogant, rude little man.

Your relationship to authority stinks.  Maybe the military can straighten you out.  Maybe not.  But go on as you are?

Uh uh.  I wouldn't want you patrolling my streets.  Not now.  Not ever.

Well, the angry OP is young and I think the officers here saw that and tried to help with expert advice, even criticism.

But you are right Brighteyes63.  Even though we know the military is quite expert in reorienting the "Me FIRST!" type ...we like to believe that things like the will to protect and a sense of patriotic duty matter in the Big Picture.

If anything he said was true what makes me wonder (kinda off topic) is why now in your early adult life use cannibis? Makes no sense to serve in the military and then start using??? What happened?? I think he was BSIng all the way, I think he has been a smoker in his early youth.

I don't think the OP was being honest with himself or with any member who offered him advice. In my opinion he does not have what it takes to meet challenges with fortitude and guts. He hasn't displayed one nano gram of sound judgment, and he is definitely not ready for the responsibity of keeping anyone safe.

I truely am sorry if I hastened his departure.I,at times, tend to come on strong when I see a glaring problem with someone who wants to be in this honorable profession.Too many youth believe that being a law enforcement officer entails that one must be the baddest dude in town. His not so clever name immediately turned me off and spoke to me of his character .I feel quite leary of the "Bad to the Bone",or "Mean Machine"type of personalities who wish to don the badge.Furthermore I sincerely doubt that he intends to go into the service and his "drinking only once in my life",I would believe just as much as if I were to say I only farted and belched once in my life.

Why are getting hit with these questions lately? That's all we need is drug users and dealers in LE work. Like that won't go wrong in the first 2 months on the job.

You wouldn't go in there for a million bucks...A Cop does it for less...A Reserve does it for free....

Now that he has gone anonymous, maybe the OP can roll a big joint and reflect upon his bad choices from earlier this year.

Wait, ssu459 -- you farted TWICE??!!  That's it.  I'm never speaking to you again.

But MarlyB, you can't hold that against him. Once was while he was a juvenile and he's left it all behind him. And the other time wasn't his fault.  He caved to peer pressure, tried Mexican food, and a friend pulled his finger.

I had a bad attitude in my late teens (maybe not quite as bad as the OP's) and 8 years in the Marine Corps straightned that out of me.

I didn't join the Corps out of a deep sense of patriotism to this nation but as a challenge and a place for a young "tough guy" to test himself. I don't think a lot of young men really understand or "feel" patriotism at that young age as they are all still in the "me" stage.

The patriotism, honor, loyalty and integrity all come later, after you are in. After you are given examples and led by some of the finest men in the world. After you have had a chance to travel aroung the world and see just how GREAT this nation is. After you have had to endure the harsh and brutal environment of combat do you really have a deep respect for human life.

I will say this from the bottom of my heart. The most compassionate and caring men or usually the ones that have seen and done the most violence.

I think deep down the OP might have some good qualities but at this stage in his life he needs positive, strong leaders to instill some integrity and responsibility into him. I do hope the OP pursues the military and maybe one day becomes at the least an upstanding, contributing member of society if not an LEO.

This country is failing. The moral and ethical fiber of the United States is coming unraveled at the cyclic rate and the men and women of the OP's generation have the fate of this once great nation in their hands, I pray they make the right choices. For all of our sakes.
