CAVEAT:  I'm not a LEO.  Just a supporter, and hoping to earn the shield someday.

Why not go to your local agency (Police, Sheriff) and axe?  They would be a lot better source as they know the agency's requirements, needs, and how to best serve the community.  Keep in mind that the vast majority of LE agencies' minimum hiring age is 21.  See if there are any Explorer posts you could get involved in.

Also, giving out any personal information, such as an email address, telephone number, etc., is a bad idea on the interwebs.  This is a public site, and you never know who could be watching.  PERSEC and OPSEC are the order of the day.

At 16, you are still young.  Don't  hang out with the wrong crowd or get goaded into things you know better than to be doing.  Keep your grades up, work hard, and do not give up if it's your dream.

GrayPanther sums it up pretty good!! You still have a few years before you can even consider getting hired. Keep your grades up and keep your nose clean. Like GP suggested, check with some of your local agencies about the requirements and any Explorer posts in the area.

You are getting way ahead of yourself. Be a kid and put this on ice the next 4 or 5 years. You may be watching too many cop shows. Relax and take a deep breath and concentrate on good grades and having fun. I wanted to be a cop since age 5 however, did not act on it till age 20. Personally I think you are to young for a ride along. Give it a few years.

Your girlfriend being pregnant does not change the basics.  Take GrayPanthers advice.  However, until you are 21 you are going to need to do something else.  Do not for any reason quit school.  It will be very hard, it will seem impossible at times, to be a father and a student.  But remember even if it was not on purpose you are still in this situation because of choices you made.  Do not ruin your future by choosing to fail at your education.

You know I caught a 15 and 16 yr old having it out in the back seat. And their response is "I can be on MTV if I get pregnant".  Yeah go ahead!! I am sure it will happen over night too.

You wouldn't go in there for a million bucks...A Cop does it for less...A Reserve does it for free....

Yup!

Seriously, he was asking for help, after the fact, but still asking in a polite manner.  We have all known someone and maybe have been in this situation ourselves.  I still remember what it was like to be a teenager and feel like I was invinsible that is until someone very close to me became pregnant.  Wow, what a game changer!  If it could happen to her then it could happen to me.  It made me a bit more responsible for sure.

To DustinButcher, good luck to you and remember what GrayPanther and Jackwagon said.  "do not fail at your education."

GREAT advice here!!!  "Don't fail at your education!"

Dustin Butcher (great name, BTW) you can still realize your dreams but it will take hard work, of course.  I hope your girlfriend has all the back-up she needs for your little baby's care so she can get her education too.  Be of help to them both!

What was it Rod Steward said, "Young hearts, be free tonight!  Time is on your side!"  You both have that working in your favor!

Stay out of trouble.  Go to college.  Annnnd remember what uncledennis said..."HAVE FUN"!

Stay in school.

You are 16 years old and i realize that you have a baby on the way but look up explorer post in your area.  That was one of the best things I have ever done.  It is completely voluntary and you will learn a lot.  You can ask all the questions you want.

By becoming a father you have entered the realm of adulthood. My advice to you is, let your child be the fire that drives you to succeed and to be a parent worthy of such a blessing.

Twilight Zone? You bet!  SAME Twilight Zone, different decade!

Some teens worried about The Bomb.  Some had the Vietnam War to deal with.  Some teens were tots watching people jump out the windows of the WTC at 911.  Some teens are worried  North Korea is NOT just threatening to nuke the US as some kind of...  sick joke??  Maybe those teens are also preoccupied an armed intruder will come to school and blow them all to pieces.  Some are preoccupied with the polar cap meltdown.

Most teens still want to change the world.  Even the ones who forget themselves and make a mistake in the back of a car.

A whole lot of teens want to turn their young lives around and do the right thing for all of us.

All we have to do is guide 'em right.

There are few grammatical errors that are irritating enough to make me twitch--and this is one of them:

"could care less"

That does not make any sense! The phrase is "couldn't care less". Please make a note of it.

You're welcome.

P.S. I realize that you couldn't care less. :)
