For the first time EVER, I let my driver's license expire *big sigh* I swear I didn't mean to.  It expired on my birthday, which is January 22.  I have th day off tomorrow, so I'm DEFINITELY going to go get it renewed.

I pulled up to a traffice stop 1.5 miles from my house and the police asked to see my driver's license.  I was so embarrased my license expired and apologized to the nice officer.  He didn't give me a ticket, and I wouldn't have had a problem getting one if he did.

My question is.... do the police normally give a ticket to someone with an expired driver's license? My car tag is current, which he did take notice and mentioned lol

One more thing.... here in the state of Georgia, the DMV have changed the rules to where you have to present your birth certificate and whateverelse (need to read up on their website) in order to renew your driver's permit.  Do other states require this too?! It's a bit frustrating that we have to live in a  current world where we have to give more and more documentation as to who you are.

Thank you so much for the response.  It definitely expired back in January.  Every officer is definitley different.  I think maybe by having my car tag current helped.  I never, ever, try to get out of a ticket.  And I look forward to getting my permit renewed.

Good afternoon my friend.Just like in any other state, for a non-moving traffic ,minor infraction, the officer has the option of citing you, issuing a warning citation or letting you go.States still vary quite a bit in regard to drivers license requirment,If it's renewed prior to expiration date you just turn it in and get a new one.If expired, birth certificate is required(in some states.)

I had to present my birth certificate the last time I tried to renew my license, I had to send away for a certified copy and that cost me $80.00 plus the fee for the license and a late charge because I waited to the last minute to renew. Had I been an illegal alien I probably wouldn't have had to go through all of that.

I just renewed my license here in PA.   PennDot sent me the application, I went on line and renewed it.   Then they sent me the card to get my photo ID which I did.   And off I went.  As soon as I got the renewal notice I did it right away as I had noticed the first of November that my license was MIA.   Still haven't located it.

Bill, now you realize the DMV is the last vestige of the Stalinist regime.

I got my license renewed yesterday.  Of course, there were about 1000 people waiting inside.  I was pretty surprised it took less than an hour.  I"m good to go :-)

It has been a few years since I renewed mine, but I didn't need all of that.  Kansas is still fairly easy, unless something has changed in 3 years and it may have...
