Holden has revealed the V8 muscle car - the SS Commodore will form the basis of an export program that will see the car sold as a Chevrolet alongside the iconic Camaro and Corvette muscle cars.  The car will also take to America's oval race tracks, becoming Chevrolet's entrant in the Nascar series.

Holden moved forward the unveiling of the new Commodore because the export version will be shown to the American public for the first time tomorrow, as part of the lead up to the legendary Daytona 500.

The export car will look almost identical to the recently-revealed VF Commodore SS-V, albeit with Chevrolet badges and – possibly – bonnet scoops to give it a more aggressive look. The car will have one of the most powerful V8s ever fitted to a locally-produced car, it's expected to get a 6.2-litre V8, which will out-gun the Holden version that makes do with a 6.0-litre V8.  Now I'm not 100% sure which 6.2 it will be but I know the one in use now in the US has a handy 403 hp (301 kW).

THAT'S A MUSCLE CAR?  That car has the same styling as every other 4 door sedan out there.  Okay, they shoehorn in a large engine, but the styling here sucks!  One thing about the old muscle cars, yeah. . . .they had a large engine and could go down the road pretty doggone fast.   However, they ALSO had their own Styyyyyylllllleee.  Something missing in the shoeboxes they're selling nowadays.

I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I expect the same from them.

Looks a lot like the PPV Caprice that Chevrolet is currently making, right down to the 6.2 liter engine.

Nope. Sorry, it has no appeal to me.

Now, if you stick a '69 Charger under my nose, or a split window Corvette or a GTX, then we can talk.

Or, if you wanna go modern, a new Lexus LS460. Or a Viper. or a nice 2012 GMC Crew Cab Sierra SLE. (I have the latter..... Schweet!)

I don't have $70K to spend on a car like a 1969 charger.  I would love to have a car like that.  What I really want is a 1970 Super Bird.

Excellent choice. I am assuming you're talking about the one with the wing. Man, those just made you stare.

If you watch Barrett Jackson, you will see what well-heeled people are willing to pay for them but not what their worth. Barrett Jackson is not KBB.

We had a '69 Chevelle SS396 years ago. Sold it because of the gas crunch back then. Within the last two or three years, one crossed the Barrett Jackson auction block and sold for .... $3,000,000 ! Certainly not what it's worth but two rich guys just kept bidding back and forth. "I want that car." "No, I want it. It's mine." "No, you can't have it. Mine. Mine. Mine." You get the picture.

Because of the lack of originality now-a-days, the Caprice and Commadore (Impala) are pretty much the same thing (minus a slight difference in dimensions and that 3rd side window).  Sure the engines are different but the jos of mass production mean with a little tweaking you can always tab A into slot 2 and Tab 1 into Slot B.

The Caprice is the longer wheel base model of the SS, both made here in Oz.    The police pack looks nothing like the model here on the interior.
