Posted 3 months ago Afternoon / Morning, Anybody have any experience with the Michigan State Troopers or is currently a Michigan State Trooper? Been in contact with some of the recruiters there, but have not been able to get a real good vibe on the "hiring climate" currently. It looks like they've done about 2 cadet courses a year, for a little while now. Just curious if this would be a good option to look into, since I'm from Michigan and would like to return, or if my efforts are better focused elsewhere. -Erik |

Is it new applicants to the MSP that concerns you, or people in general applying for a career in law enforcement? |

| Posted 3 months ago New applicants even though more educated than in the past do not seem to have decision making skills. While chief I would shake my head at the pool of applicants and their difficulty making simple decisions. I long for the old days. We are not a society of thinkers. |

uncledennis, I completely understand what you are saying. America as a whole has become a society of sheep and we want a "speed dial" answer for everything that goes wrong in our life. I'd like to think my decision making skills have improved since joining the military, and I look at some of my peers and wonder what the Army was doing when the allowed them in. But, it is always easier to point the finger than look yourself in the mirror; I can only hope the current assignments I've had will prepare me when it is time to get out. |

| Posted 3 months ago tootall207. Thanks for your service. My son wanted to become a cop and I noticed he had difficulty in filling out the application and answering simple questions in the packet. I encouraged him to remain in the military and he was an E-7 after 9 years and received the Bronze Star. He is my hero and is a leader in battle. I liked your response and wish you well. Feel free to PM if I may of assistance. |

| Posted 3 months ago Will do uncledennis. Thank your son next time you talk to him; he made E-7 at a pretty competitive pace and with a Bronze Star to boot. I appreciate your offer and will most likely take you up on it if and when the time arrises.

| Posted 3 months ago If you are looking into the MSP, go to michigan.gov/msp. That is their website and can give you a considerable amount of information, including phone numbers to the MSP which can lead to a phone number for a recruiter. Good luck. |

| Posted 3 months ago Thank you, tootall207, for your service to this country and don't get too down about the reception you get on any of these topics. I sometimes find it hard to understand why people bother to take the time to make negative comments and replies instead of just leaving the topic alone.. I also understand the desire to learn everything you can prior to making one of the most important decisions in your life. Anyways, I'm not a MSP trooper but I have looked into their program quite a bit, trained at their facility and have a former academy buddy in their academy currently. From what I've heard... The MSP does intend to go through with at least one or more large academies within the next year or two. Apparently, the fact that the MSP had not a recruit school for several years, prior to the two most recent, means they're hurting for numbers. Also, from what I understand the MSP have been looking to expand their operations in Flint, Saginaw, Pontiac, and Detroit. Good luck! |

| Posted 3 months ago SEMIO, appreciate the support. I understand forums take off on their own tangents so I'm not that bent out of shape when topics stray. I seem to be getting a decently warm welcome from the recruiters that I've talked to so hopefully they will still have available opportunities in a couple years. I just try and keep a positive outlook, and keep on moving forward; you don't get anywhere by looking backwards all the time. Hope your buddy is doing well in the academy; I look at the MSP recruiting blog and see their training events so I know they are keeping busy over there. |
