I've been thinking about applying for a trooper job, but have a question that someone can hopefully clear up for me. One of the disqualifications of employment is using or experimenting with marijuana in the last two years. I feel like I'm over thinking this, but there was one instance, only time I have ever even been around it, and the guy handed me some little thing with some in it and told me to try it, I put it up to my mouth and acted as if I tried it and handed it back to him. I'm worried that this would be considered experimenting and would cause me to be disqualified, I don't want to apply and get halfway through the process and this keep me from going any further. Thanks, hope this can be cleared up for me, it has been bugging me for a while now. I'm a very honest person and never been around any kind of drugs until this, and would hate something like this would keep me from doing what I've always wanted to do

Be honest about your past both good and bad. Talk to the recruiter about how they view that sort of thing and you will have your answer. Always ask the agency that you are applying for questions, as many are different....

I appreciate the reply man, I know I wouldn't have a problem with the process once I got through that.

Bump my friend csiguy. If it was two years ago it could be a yes or no depending on the agency.Somewhere during your testing phase you will be administered a polygraph.I have read the qualificatioins for the Arizona State Police and Pennsylvania State Police. Both are page after page long and don't allow a lot of wiggle room.

You said it yourself, you're probably overthinking it. RELAX. Go talk to the agency and be honest with them.

We get this question to often. Why not axe the agency? New applicants concern me.

Just be honest with them both on the application and in the interview process.  I am not an officer, nor on a review board; but I would not tell them well someone handed me a joint, I put it to my mouth, but I did not take the hit, I only faked it and then handed it back to him due to peer pressure.  Just seems fishy but that is just me.

Good luck applying though

If thats the truth then state exactly so...  fishy or not.  Just tell the truth especially if there is a poly involved.  Better off with tthe truth no matter what...
