BENTON, AR –- A Benton Police officer is credited for saving an 88-year-old woman from her burning home.

Officer Christopher Goss rescued bedridden Jessie Flowers on December 26, 2012 from the house on Derby Drive.

"The house was full of smoke. There were flames in the kitchen. I didn't know how much time I had to get her or get her out of there. My concern was to get her out as soon as possible," said Goss.

An apartment is attached to the home, which is were Goss and other crews found Flowers and her daughter, Jan.

"They said you have to go out. And I said momma is right here. There was still no smoke in the apartment because it was at the far end. And they came in, lifted her up and they carried her out," said jan Adams-Byers.

The colon cancer survivor made it out ok.

"I hate that her house burned up. But that can be replaced. She can't," said Goss.

Family members say they are not sure if they will rebuild. Officer Goss says the incident reminds him of why he loves his job.

"To help get somebody out, it's a very good feeling to know at the end of the day, you are saving a life," said Goss.

People often take our local heros for granted. There are so many negative stories in the news about the police. This is a great example of what our cops do every day.

Great Job Officer Goss!
