It seem like when you go to the forums they are not updated on the main forum page and show the last posts being months ago?  For a new member not knowing where to look (or to check the "recent" posts) it could seem that the forums are very inactive.  This may prevent new members from becoming more active.

Where is this "outdated" list?

If you hover over the forums tab a drop down menu is provided...  If you click on the main tab it is showing me the most recent at the top.

Good feedback.

Ya know, there are some discussions that fade. And they should fade. Those topics naturally end and don't necessarily perpetuate because the conversation ended.

Not quite sure how to do it, but the most resourceful place to land is hitting the Forums button, and in the drop down menu, go to Most Recent. (As you pointed out.)

Got any suggestions on how to get peeps there ?

I dont mean the threads themselves.  For instance if you click on Forums it will show you a list of all the forums.  Under Introductions it shows the last post being a month ago.  Unless you clicked on Introductions and saw that there have in fact been newer posts other than Spectre's last post in it a month ago, you would never know.

Under Search Forum Topics for subject choose Advanced option which offers a time period selection, among other things.

Apart from that, dunno.  A PL Tour Guide with a cute uniform and a handfull of brochures??

I see a volunteer has raised their hand. Thank you!

On the topic at hand, PL's software has been in a "state" and there is no caretaker of it and as far as I know there is none on the horizon. We just have to work with what we have.

<-- Has uniform.

I understand how to work the system, Im just saying for those unfamiliar with the site itself it would seem no one has posted in the forums for at leat a month, if not months.  The site should be updated on its own when someone puts a new post in that Forum itself.

Ah I see, Wish I could help more.  Actually made my own discussion site a few months back although it is in sleeping mode for the winter (fishing site),  Designed all my own graphics and topics.  But someone would need administative access through Monster.

This isn't your standard HTML site. It is almost all dynamically generated with the underlying engine written entirely in Ruby using the Rails framework. Even if it was a more common website engine, our illustrious admin's access stops at the "hood", if you know what I mean.

I understand, someone would have to be able to have access through Monster itself.

:D That's pretty much what we all do--by way of reaching out and giving people goofy workarounds...such as encouraging people to date stamp topics or replies which might need a more chronological context later.

Aye--maybe someday Monster will hire a Ruby developer to fix stuff here--but I wouldn't stake my life on it.

It seems to be the only part of the site thats really affected.  Everything else seems to update itself.

Oh, there are tons of bugs on the site. You just haven't noticed them all yet. :)

What I believe is going on there is that the "Forums" page uses some faulty algorithm for determining what is the most recent popular posting--then it shows that. Actually--no, there's some caching going on there and it doesn't update often (so even the last replier isn't reflected accurately). I was confusing that with the bug in news:

Every Tuesday, the Popular news list seems to lose the last few days of data. Sometimes it'll even show stories that haven't been replied to in more than a year.
