Ok, we've all seen it in the movies but when will we see it on the street? A taser that stops a car as fast as the currently used devices drop a human. In the movie "2 Fast 2 Furious", customs agents used a rather large weapon that fired a harpoon that shocked the fleeing vehicles electrical systems when it latched onto the vehicles body. I just want to hear what everyone has to say about this and if we're ever gonna see it in actual use.

A long time ago, I was watching a program, on Court TV or something like that, and they actually showed a concept that they were trying to make. It was the same as a spike strip, with no spikes and when a car drove over it, it sent some kind of shock to the starter, shutting it off and disableing the engine. I never heard or saw anything after that. Sounds like a great idea though.

I think I saw the same program. there was also a harpoon idea that they shot at a car and it sent a shock through the car disableing the electronics. Personally if ONSTAR can shut off a car why don't the manufactures put that feature as standard in every vehicle? If a vehicle is stolen then a police agency can call up and have the car shut off. Granted we may not catch all the criminals in the cars and it may result in fewer pursuits but more cars will be recovered intact and not with bodies stuck underneath them.

Having a system like that that would have to be connected by satilite would be expensive and the auto manufacturers would more than likely make it an OPTION. Alot of people aren't going to pay for something extra like that, and then what about the older cars. Personally I wouldn't care how you stopped my car as long as it didn't involve wrecking it. Who cares about the giant taser probes poking a few holes in the body pannels. I've got full coverage insurance. There was a discussion about that "TWEEL" thing that is a completely airless tire, that spikes wouldn't work on. If those things were in mass use then there would have to be something till law enforcement technologies caught up to it. Spikes don't work so your only option is to wreck em off the road or wait till they do it themselves.
