PRESIDENT OBAMA MAY USE EXECUTIVE ORDER TO BY PASS CONGRESS ON GUN CONTROL

Vice President Joe Biden indicated Wednesday that the president will be able to take executive action to combat gun violence as he kicked off one of several meetings this week in response to the Newtown shooting.

"We're here today to deal with a problem that requires immediate action, urgent action," Biden said at the start of a meeting with leaders from gun control groups and several victims of gun violence.

"The president is going to act. There are executive orders, executive action that can be taken. We haven't decided what that is yet, but we're compiling it all ... as well as legislative action, we believe, is required," he said.

Among the attendees at Wednesday's meeting, Biden said, "There is a pretty wide consensus on three or four or five things in the gun safety area that could and should be done."

But Biden isn't just meeting with those whose views align with the administration. He is set to meet Thursday with the National Rifle Association. Asked what he'll say to them, Biden replied: "They'll be able to tell you that."

Throughout his brief remarks, Biden stressed that the White House will act, even if its steps seem incomplete. "I want to make it clear that we are not going to get caught up in the notion unless we can do everything, we're going to do nothing," he said.

Not to worry, the President of the United States does not have the power to overide the Constitution of the United States.  He can enact stuff like stricter backgrounds or mental health evals, stuff like that, but nothing that would really hurt gun owners.

Before I got into law enforcement I worked with a guy who predicted a civil war in this country.  I am starting to believe he may have been correct.

The thing about  this is there are approx. 800,000 cops in the country (local, county, state and federal) and 90,000,000 gun owners; and the cops fall into that number. So who exactly would enforce this anyway? Since Posse Comitatus prevents the military from enforcing it I see where the numbers fall on the side of the gun owners.

And the reason I mention it is the "civil war" the guy you worked with mentioned could prove to be a shorter war than the first Gulf War if this is it..

This is going to get interesting, I don't think the nation will stand for to much.  We will have to wait and see.  Personally I think the President is just fluffing his feathers with no real intent in mind, just to make it look like it is acting on it.  Clinton did the same thing, onle he did it in a smarter way.

In response to who would enforce new gun laws. I think that's why they want the UN Small ARS Agreement. Bringing "Blue  Helments into the US for enforcement but personally I believe that would cause a revolution, but I'm think Obama hates us that much.

Tough Path Seen by Obama on Ban of Assault Weapons

http://nyti.ms/UZ7WiV    (copy and paste into browser)

Excerpt:

Mr. Biden’s comment this week about taking executive action was seized on by some opponents as evidence that the president wanted to unilaterally restrict gun sales to legal buyers. But officials said executive action refers to limited measures like directing more attention and resources to pursuing violations of existing gun laws and studying gun violence.

FYI--interesting aside that some may have heard before: former President George H. W. Bush (Bush 41) did quit the NRA in May 1995 in response to Wayne LaPierre's (executive vice president of N.R.A.) comments on law enforcement. Please keep this in mind every time you're tempted to parrot the NRA's talking points.

GHWB's letter to the N.R.A.:

May 3, 1995

Dear Mr. Washington,

I was outraged when, even in the wake of the Oklahoma City tragedy, Mr. Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of N.R.A., defended his attack on federal agents as "jack-booted thugs." To attack Secret Service agents or A.T.F. people or any government law enforcement people as "wearing Nazi bucket helmets and black storm trooper uniforms" wanting to "attack law abiding citizens" is a vicious slander on good people.

Al Whicher, who served on my [ United States Secret Service ] detail when I was Vice President and President, was killed in Oklahoma City. He was no Nazi. He was a kind man, a loving parent, a man dedicated to serving his country -- and serve it well he did.

In 1993, I attended the wake for A.T.F. agent Steve Willis, another dedicated officer who did his duty. I can assure you that this honorable man, killed by weird cultists, was no Nazi.

John Magaw, who used to head the U.S.S.S. and now heads A.T.F., is one of the most principled, decent men I have ever known. He would be the last to condone the kind of illegal behavior your ugly letter charges. The same is true for the F.B.I.'s able Director Louis Freeh. I appointed Mr. Freeh to the Federal Bench. His integrity and honor are beyond question.

Both John Magaw and Judge Freeh were in office when I was President. They both now serve in the current administration. They both have badges. Neither of them would ever give the government's "go ahead to harass, intimidate, even murder law abiding citizens." (Your words)

I am a gun owner and an avid hunter. Over the years I have agreed with most of N.R.A.'s objectives, particularly your educational and training efforts, and your fundamental stance in favor of owning guns.

However, your broadside against Federal agents deeply offends my own sense of decency and honor; and it offends my concept of service to country. It indirectly slanders a wide array of government law enforcement officials, who are out there, day and night, laying their lives on the line for all of us.

You have not repudiated Mr. LaPierre's unwarranted attack. Therefore, I resign as a Life Member of N.R.A., said resignation to be effective upon your receipt of this letter. Please remove my name from your membership list.

Sincerely,

[ signed ] George Bush
