Posted 4 months ago First, let me say thank you to all who have served or are serving as Law Enforment Officers, for offering yourselfs (your time, safety, and families) for the rest of us. I am currently in the process of hoping to join your ranks. I have passed my written exam and physical test to join the County Sheriff's Department in my local county. I have my polygraph test tomorrow and anticipate passing it without incident. However, I must admit, I am extremely new to the whole career path I am embarking on. I have a Masters degree in Architecture and have been working as an architectural intern for the previous 4 years. I have come to find this work devoid of meaning and wish to enter a career that focuses on coming to the aid of those in need, unable to "protect themselves." I would gladly welcome advice from those that have walked before me, anything that can help or encourage me. I have a wife, who has been more than understanding with my decision to chose this change of career (and life) - especially after my previous career commitment, and an 18 month old daughter. I only hope that I can make them proud of me! |

| Posted 4 months ago Welcome to PL Edward? or possibly Earl?. It is good that you have discussed this with your wife and have her on board as a rookie LEO gets the worst shifts and days off, you can pretty much count on spending holidays 'at work'. |

She's disappointed, but knows it's a reality. She is understanding because she knows how big of a letdown my current career is and knows how badly I want to be a public servant. |

| Posted 4 months ago Good Luck, you seem to have the right attitude. My advice if you are hired and go to the academy and upon graduation is to Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut. always listen to the guys with time. Their advice may likely save your life someday. Have ASP will travel. Justice is the one thing you should always find, you gotta saddle up your boys you gotta draw a hard line. When the gun smoke settles we'll sing a victory tune and we'll all meet back at the local saloon. And we'll raise up our glasses against evil forces singing whiskey for my men beer for my horses. |

| Posted 4 months ago Welcome to Policelink, I hope to be following in your footsteps shortly. Good luck! You won't regret coming here. As they say in radio, I was a 'long time listener / first time caller' and am definitely glad I finally made an account recently. It's a great website with some real substance to it; a lot of good resources and even better people.
