Nicole aka tank117 asked me to post this for her on PL:

Hey there gang... thank you for all your prayers.  As a few of you know I received my honorable discharge from the Marines in March 2012.  After returning home I was hired at my old high school job at a cabinet manufacturing company.  It wasn't too bad either.  Was getting plenty of over time working 80 hours a week!  But I wasn't complaining...after being in the Marines for 5 years it was nice to get the time and a half pay for extra hours.  In April I began having issues with my right (dominant) hand, such as extreme pain, numbness and tingling, cramping, no feeling, dropping objects and weakness.  I did what I usually do and shook it off for a while..this is something I now regret.  None the less after a while my docs didn't want me working...I now have been off of work for three months or so...and just as of last week was let go asI am still unable to return to work medically.  During this time off I was bounced around a few doctors doing all sorts of tests...and in the end I needed to have surgery for carpel tunnel and something called de quirviens (spelling is off but it has to do with the tendon to the thumb).  These surgeries did resolve most of the issues.  But I am still having problems with pain and tendons snapping.  So on Jan 30th. I will have another surgery to my wrist to remove a cyst but they will have to cut a couple of tendons to get to it...so recovery will be a long road.

Added to this my anxiety and depression have dramatically worsened as I an a person who is used to working...so to go from a million miles an hour to not being able to do much at all has been a blow to my mind and confidence.  As many of you know I want to get a job in LE...but I have had to put that all on hold until can get my hand fixed.  It has been hard for me to not do things that I enjoy such as shooting, archery,  I missed my first hunting season since getting out, wood working, and even weight lifting.  And have also been faced with many other obstacles...my roommate who is a local LEO is also out of work due to an injury and is going through a worker's comp. case.  Anyway, our house is heated by wood... so a much needed chore of chopping wood that normally wouldn't be a problem to do has been a very painful and regrettable task.  Even simple things such as cutting my own food has been hard.  But my roommate has been a good support system and very helpful.

I won't say much about what's going on with my roomy but I do ask for your prayers with hsi workers comp. case, divorce, child support and child custody issues.

And than you again for all the support and prayers.

I think Nicole meant de Quervain's syndrome but did not want to change her e-mail.

Thanks for posting this, C.

I wish all the best for Nicole and her roommate, too, of course.

Hello, Nicole.  We have not had the pleasure of "meeting" as I am new to PL.

I cannot imagine what you are going through.  It sounds like the first surgery went well and I pray that the upcoming cyst removal can resolve your pain and continuing tendon-related problems.  I will look for updates from you and I wish you the very best of luck.

 Nicole,

I had surgery for the exact same thing 2 years ago. PM me if you would like to compare notes. I was out of work for 9 months and it tool time but finally got to the point where my hand was back to near-normal. I had an awesome OT before and after surgery who is the wife of a LEO so she knew how to get me back to work. Make sure you follow all the instructions of the surgeon and, expecially, the OT.

Good luck and remember - this too will pass.

Nick

Thanks Cedardale...I have my pre-op this Thursday and will keep all up to date.  Please keep my roomy Bill in all your prayers. Even though he is going threw a workers comp case with the city he was terminated from his job as a police officer with the city of eugene today.  There reason is that he does not have any personal time on his books. Which i do not understand as his doctors say he can not work, and the city put him on medical leave without any return dates.  So for the night its about distracting his mind as much as possable until he can speak to and update his lawyer tomorrow. As for his divorce/child custody of his youngest boys, all seams to be going in his favor.

Hey Tank, thanks for the updates.  Everyone is bucking for you as you heal up.  I know it's hard, but the good part is you've got friends who care.  And you and your room-mate have each other to lean on as you re-group for a better situation.  Check out BigNTS if you haven't already.  Looks like he has some good info on course of OT.  YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Thank you everyone! you all have been a great support and help in keeping my head on and driving threw each day and the bad pain spells. MarlyB..bignts and i text nearly every day and hes a big help as hes gone threw all the same that I have with my hand :) its good to finally have someone who can relate/understand and give advice as for months here no one (not even my doctors) understood what has been going on.  It started only 2 weeks after i was honorably discharged from the Marines.  I sure didn't expect to have to climb a wall as large as i have been to get to where i want to be as an leo
