Cheap .223 is still available around here (Ohio), but the good stuff goes quick. Same with .380. Do a quick internet search. You may be able to find some good deals online.

Check Bass Pro Shop on the Internet.. they usually have really good prices... but I don't know what the .223 should cost... so just an idea.  Another website is ...     ammunitiontogo.com  they are also really good.

Good luck.

Funny I came across this. I was speaking to a person a few days ago and he informed me, he received 1,000 rounds of this ammo for $400.00. He thought he got a deal and I have no idea as I had never heard of this ammo.

5.56 has become SCARCE here. I was tooling around in our local Walmart yesterday and found the ammo shelves to be bare. I am certain the ammo manufacturer's are happy!

Your person may have gotten it from the same place I did. 1000 rounds, boxed/canned for that price. Personally, I thought it was a pretty good deal.

Maybe since we passed the deadline for the End of the World, the horders will start selling their stockpile. But then again, maybe not

You think the store was bad? I heard horror stories about the chaos and crowd at our gun show this weekend!

There is a firm in Texas. Cheaper Than Dirt.  Often offers good stuff at a resaonable cost.

Yeah I am having the same trouble with finding .40 ammo. I bought the last box through buds online and it was like $12 for a box of 50. But I cannot find a decent price on .40 anywhere and if I do its like triple the price. I can always by through my dept at $10 for a box of 50.

$10 through your department? I would buy a ton of that, that is a fantastic price for .40 I can't even get 9mm for that cheap

Maybe the guy from Kentucky had something to do with it.  He bought 32,000 rounds for $18,000 and had to have it shipped to him on a freight truck HAHA  http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2012/12/29/gun-sales-spike/1797815/

A lot of ammo including 22LR, 223, 7.62x39, 308, 9mm, 40s&w, 380acp, 38super, 357sig & 45acp are all getting very hard to come by because of the uncertainty of how our gun & ammo laws are going to change and what we will be able to keep, buy or what kind of hoops we'll have to jump through in order to purchase a gun or ammo. Semi automatic pistols are getting very scarce as well except for 1911 models, and on the ones you can find, the price has skyrocketed in most cases.

Getting hard to find any ammo in Colorado.  The gun shows still have a lot of reloads for sale, but you have to stand in line for an hour just to get in the door, and it now cost 10.00 just to get into the show.  The stores that sell ammo, are getting it in, but it flies off the shelf as fast as they stock it.

They are fairly reasonable....usually. A lot of folks are starting to get hit with price increases from the manufacturer. Now, granted it has been a few days since I was at CheaperThanDirt's website but the last time I was there they were out of stock of all .223 and 5.56 except for certain brands that I would never put through my rifle.

Another Texas based company is GT Distributers, and they are also out of stock and currently NOT accepting any backorders. Ammo is becoming like gold.

I can find 5.56, 223, and 7.62 x 51 but the prices have almost doubled. Several of my online sources are sold out and advise no idea when it will be in stock. Friendly advice, steel cases with a varnish finish will gum up and will require more cleaning.

Saw a story on the news about an hour ago, where a PD back east, can't remember where it was, said they cannot get any ammo for training or duty, and the company they order from said there was a back-log of over six months.  Law enforcement should have number one priority when it comes to ammo supplies.  This is going to get nasty I am afraid.

From what I've experienced in Arkansas (at the local Wally world) .223 is still available, as are most other calibers. Calibers such as 7mm-Rem. Mag are readily available because it's not a super popular round. Prices have certainly gone up some though.
