| Posted 5 months ago Well, Whenever, this happens at a school, college, church or wherever, the same knee jerk happens, everytime this issue comes up. I can almost agree small rural have a great need to request teachers being armed. Hopefully, if these same communities with deep pockets if there is such a thing. arm your teachers and enjoy the peace and false sense of security you may get. Until something you asked for blows. Apparently, there is merit to both sides. However, if arming laymen/women was a contender/option it would have been done a few shootings back! Also, I speak from what you call arrogance it better known as experience and 15 years of working in a school district and not 16 years patrolling highway 67. i can tell you how many big rigs i have stopped and issued a citation to (3). Please expound on the numerous times you or anyone other than Ron (Skoolcop) has had to respond to an active shooter or person with a weapon of any type on school grounds. I would not go to a butcher to remove my appendix, I would go to a doctor/surgeon who specializes in the area! There are a lot of could have should have scenarios. However, there has been no discussion about how many times and lives have been saved and tragedy avoided because of a police officer on campus. Yeap, just like the Israelis we lose a few, no system is flawless! Having said that to say this abdicating LE's responsibility to anyone other LE, is at a minimum reckless. Money is always the issue, communities find money for their priorities! Make our schools safety a priority.

| Posted 5 months ago Maybe we should have had a poll here.. 1) Are you for all teachers having weapons in schools? 2) Are you for only high level Adminstrators and the Principle having a weapon? 3) Are you for only some teachers having weapons? or 4) Are you not for ANY teacher/principle/admin having a weapon? These are just sample questions maybe.. It would have been interesting to see the results....

| Posted 5 months ago Maybe worded differently... 1 Anyone that can must carry. 2 Only administrators required to carry. 3 Voluntary carry by chl holders 4 Administrators with chl 5 Police only. 6 Police and chl. 7 Stick to gun free zones and lock the doors. 8 Its time to call the most interesting cop in the world for ideas. Funny how the only enumerated right that contains the phrase "shall not be infringed" suffers the heaviest regulation. I'm still trying to find where it says anything about hunting and targets. |

Best response so far. Comic relief:

So.. you say you are disagreeing with having poll in this thread? You are free to disagree with me "on almost every level", as I am not offended... but having a poll?? And you are telling ME to "get a grip"? Ditto! "Government's first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives." - Ronald Reagan

Another spot on response. Real solutions to serious problems shouldn't be focus-group tested. Thank you for underscoring what should be plain, but it isn't for many people. Bessie Braddock: “Sir, you are drunk.” Churchill: “Madam, you are ugly. In the morning, I shall be sober.” |

Michelle and Mongro, If it's a poll you want than get er done! Your CHOICE is just that YOURS! Other's opposed to them then don't participate! I do agree that on this site it will be skewed based on the demographics! Matt, please provide your thoughts on real solutions! “The real reason that we can’t have the Ten Commandments in a courthouse: You cannot post “Thou shalt not steal,” “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” and “Thou shalt not lie” in a building full of lawyers, judges, and politicians. | Posted 5 months ago I don't have any Steven, otherwise I would've shared. However, polling on it I'm certain is the wrong approach! Bessie Braddock: “Sir, you are drunk.” Churchill: “Madam, you are ugly. In the morning, I shall be sober.” |

Fair enough, on not having any ideas on the issue. “The real reason that we can’t have the Ten Commandments in a courthouse: You cannot post “Thou shalt not steal,” “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” and “Thou shalt not lie” in a building full of lawyers, judges, and politicians. I didn't say I didn't have ideas, but I'm not naive enough to think that I've thought them completely through. Bessie Braddock: “Sir, you are drunk.” Churchill: “Madam, you are ugly. In the morning, I shall be sober.” |

| Posted 5 months ago Ideas are not the same as fully fleshed-out solutions, sir. Please take a deep breath and stop responding as though we're jousting.

The questions for polling were merely examples of questions that COULD be asked if polled.. it is not the "end all, be all" to this conversation. And I would like to clarify one thing: I don't think we are doing any "operational planning" here on PoliceLink... Are we being constructive? Yes, I think we are.. opinions of others and how they feel is VERY constructive. One reason I love this Site.. I have learned from many after 3 1/2 years. Merry Christmas to you too. Matt, are you serious! Jousting? You dish it but can't take it! Sir, no worries! I know the difference between an idea and a solution. Just seeking clarification of what you said you did not say! I guess one of us does not understand the difference. Now, you should know by now I value my freedom of speech as I do yours so you need to please take a deeper breath and rethink your attempt to dress me down. My fathers name is Ralph, not Matt! Therefore, he is the only person authorized to tell me to stop doing anything. Say what you mean and mean what you say! Learn to take what you give! Your thoughts about .jousting are purely yours and yours alone! “The real reason that we can’t have the Ten Commandments in a courthouse: You cannot post “Thou shalt not steal,” “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” and “Thou shalt not lie” in a building full of lawyers, judges, and politicians. | Posted 5 months ago I didn't give anything. Here's an idea I'm willing to share: stop assuming you're seeing personal attacks everywhere. Point to where I wasn't polite and professional and deserved the sarcasm I got in return. Bessie Braddock: “Sir, you are drunk.” Churchill: “Madam, you are ugly. In the morning, I shall be sober.” |

I see aliens and zombies too! However, I don't back track either! I do believe anyone following this nonsense will clearly see you are the one seeing a personal attack! There you go with that stop thing again! You made a comment and I sought clarification. Point out where I said you were unprofessional, polite is another issue towards Michelle and SlowMotion. I guess what they have to say does not matter if it is in conflict with what you have to say. I respect.Mongro1 for his position whether I agree with it or not. He said what he had to say and let it go, Michelle is more than capable of defending her position on any issue. You call it sarcasm, I call it asking a question which was polite and respectful to you. However, you went on the defensive. If you feel I responded to you with sarcasm that was not my intent appears you have pretty thin skin, but then it is what it is. I'm done go ahead and get your parting shot! Happy Sunday! “The real reason that we can’t have the Ten Commandments in a courthouse: You cannot post “Thou shalt not steal,” “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” and “Thou shalt not lie” in a building full of lawyers, judges, and politicians. | Posted 5 months ago Nope nothing scientific about it. This entire the thread is entirely opinion with lots of ideas mixed with even more emotions. But if I'm not mistaken we're all just throwing out what we think is best. There can be no one plan that works across the board. And even if we did all manage to agree on something there is next to no chance of implementation. And as for the choices put down they are just a summary of what was already said in a nutshell. I tried to cover all the bases but its moot in the end. Merry christmas all. Funny how the only enumerated right that contains the phrase "shall not be infringed" suffers the heaviest regulation. I'm still trying to find where it says anything about hunting and targets. |

| Posted 5 months ago I simply agreed with Mongo's opinion on the lack of utility of polls. I also stated a fact: most people do not understand that polls have limited utility in solving problems. You took this as an assault, either on yourself or others--not my problem. All your responses to me contain an overarching suggestion of disrespect. It isn't the first thread either, but I got tired of ignoring it. FIN Bessie Braddock: “Sir, you are drunk.” Churchill: “Madam, you are ugly. In the morning, I shall be sober.” |

| Posted 5 months ago While I totally distrust poll results anywhere, I do welcome a forum back-and-forth on this hot topic. Many non-participants may factor in ideas expressed here into their own unvoiced ones. Besides that, where but cyberspace can one announce "I agree with Mongo's opinion"? lol So..praise the Lord and pass the...EGGNOG!

| Posted 5 months ago I don't distrust a properly constructed and applied poll, but casual polls with the stated purpose of brainstorming ideas for real-world problems = epic fail every time. Sarcasm is also a terrible way to show respect for people. Bessie Braddock: “Sir, you are drunk.” Churchill: “Madam, you are ugly. In the morning, I shall be sober.” |

| Posted 5 months ago I just want to clear the air. People should be allowed to state their opinions respectfully without getting a load of horse nuggets in return. If I sound angry, it's because I find this kind of behavior particular distasteful when it is someone on my very limited friends list. I call those people out--out of respect, because I expect and deserve better.
