As a LEO I have noted there are numberous cases of SUV's speeding, being involved in fatal accidents, and being driven by intoxicated individuals. I propose a ban on SUV's to solve these problems. You may claim that most SUV's are used in a responsible manner, but clearly they are involved in many problem situations. Think of how much safer we would all be if this menace were taken off our roadways, I propose that we petition the president to act on this menace to the public. Would like input from others about this issue, it has been ignored too long by our politicians. |

| Posted 5 months ago Its not the SUVs that are the problem, its the person driving. The SUV has a higher center of gravity that adds to the likelyhood that it'll flip. The speeding and being driven by intoxicated drivers are both operator issues, NOT issues of the SUV. Address the operator issues before bashing the SUV. Forget pettitioning the President on this issue, there are other issues to deal with. "Niether fire nor wind, birth nor death can erase our good deeds." Buddha |

| Posted 5 months ago Sigh--this was not a sincere plea. It's just my friend Cedardale thinking he's awfully clever by drawing parallels with another issue that is in the news lately. :) (Sorry, C--but that is not original...at all!) | Posted 5 months ago Yep,I thought somebody would catch on to that one.If congress does go there however I would suggest they also ban air travel. Can you imagine two 747's colliding in mid air? We're talking around about four hundred deaths. On a serious note I believe assault weapons should be available to law enforcement agancies ONLY and issued to those on specific teams, such as Special Services,E.R.U..E.R.T.. and S.R.T. teams who are professionally trained in their use. |

| Posted 5 months ago FYI: I am not for a ban (or even necessarily a ban on specific weapons, magazines, etcetera), but we ought to be able to talk about sensible restrictions without invoking cries of "slippery slope". Just sayin'

| Posted 5 months ago YES, ban SUV's. And beat-up pickups, anything older than 10 years old, druggie buggies, Pintos, warrant wagons, hoopdees and rock rentals. They all gotta go. Any old Vette is still permitted. |

| Posted 5 months ago Off topic however. I read in the paper that Yugo has a new anti theft device. They are making the letters taller. |

Yugo in and of itself is an anti-theft device. I didn't know they were still making those cars.

| Posted 5 months ago I believe there should also be a ban on turn signals.I lived in Arkansas for seven years and never saw them used.Guess it over-taxes the finger muscle to flick the lever. If Arkansans don't have to use them the rest of us shouildn't have to either.Fact is,I seldom see them in use in Missouri either. |

| Posted 5 months ago Dave, that brings to mind a favorite Carlin bit: "When you're out in traffic, never get behind anybody weird. You ever get stuck behind a guy whose turn signal has been on for about eighty miles? And you are thinking to yourself, well maybe he's just a really cautious man. I'm not going to pass him now, he may turn at any moment. And later you discover he was driving around the world--to the left!" ~ George Carlin Bessie Braddock: “Sir, you are drunk.” Churchill: “Madam, you are ugly. In the morning, I shall be sober.” |

No, not at first. I did after reading a few other comments though. Sometimes I'm a little slow on picking up the internet sarcasm. Its a problem I'm working on correcting. "Niether fire nor wind, birth nor death can erase our good deeds." Buddha |

| Posted 5 months ago like many other people in this discussion, have said, it does not matter what kind of car it is, if the driver is a DUI or DWI, the outcome will be the samewhen you mix drining and driving, so i dont know why we would ban SUVs, we should be taking a look at bars and clubs and try to find a why to slow down the drinking and driving, i know that it we cant stop it all but sometimes presence is good enough, and if you stop just one person then it is worth it.!!! “In honor, there is hope” |
