tried marijuana/cocaine ONCE in College, can I still get a job as an LE officer?

Posted 6 months ago Freshman year of college, like pretty much every student, I experimented once with marijuana, and once with cocaine. I realized at both instances these weren't for me and never touched the stuff again. During my quest to become a Law Enforcement Officer, I have discovered that drug use is frowned upon (obviously), to the point it may lead to immediate disqualification. Can anyone offer their two cents pertaining to my specific situation? Am I toast? I've never been in any trouble in my life, and am wondering if these two poor choices severely hurt my opportunity to be in Law Enforcement.. Thank you in advance for your constructive comments! |

Honestly....... you can take your chances but I would ask the agency with whom you are applying what their policy is regarding past drug use, specifically marijuana and cocaine and any other narcotic that you have so much as tried (allegedly) only once. That all said, in most cases...... your

I think you'll find your answers in this previous and very informative discussion: -http://policelink.monster.com/topics/77644-does-prior-drug-use-automatically-disqualify-you-from-an-le-career-check-here-before-you-ask-in-the-threads/posts |

| Posted 6 months ago It depends on the department; how long ago your last experience with marijuana was, as to whether most departments would accept your application... as for cocaine, that I don't know... That might be a complete disqualifier. You need to check with a department. If you were willing to try these drugs as a Freshman in College, what else are you willing to try? You say it wasn't for you... well, what if you had liked it? See where I am going with this? You are old enough to know the difference between what is right and wrong. | Posted 6 months ago Q: Do you know what the first sign of a coke high is? A: The immediate desire to snort more coke! Welcome to PL, Newcomer - where skepticism rules! Refer to the forum mentioned here. And, remember that risk-taking is a big part of the screening OUT. Was that "once" when you and your pals gurgled a bong then whiffed six rashers, jumped into the car to speed across the state line to a roadhouse, guzzle pitchers, sniff fat lines in the john, and spark blunts in the parking lot then head back at dawn? Or was "once" a light toot up one dainty nostril while you and the other maids of honor were sipping champagne and getting dressed for your cousin's wedding? You were suddenly overcome with guilt, vowing never to do it again, a single tear coursing down your cheek as you wobbled down the aisle? Or was "once" that Spring Break where you did both of these things and a few others that "tarnished your badge" before the fact? Exaggerating to make the point, LEStudent! So... please remember police department screening procedures do have a way of getting to the truth. So be honest!

| Posted 6 months ago At least there hasn't been a poster who claimed to have snorted cocaine while/after watching the movie Blow. http://www.iamsorryivotedforobama.com/ How's that HOPE and CHANGE working out for you? What would you do for a Klondike bar? |
