So I just got word that I passed my written test and my physical agility, and I have my oral board on the  7th of Dec., I have some mixed emotions right now, i am happy that i passed everything to this point, but i am nervous because this is the first time that i have done this kind of exam. So i do have a few questions 1) should i bring a resume, with some of awards attached to it such as a meditorios service award, and some of my top responder awards from the FD that i was, and i also have all fo my NIMS, should i attact that to it as well or should i not bring anything at all, any advise would be great, like i said i have never done one befor.

No need to bring anything except yourself.

The Oral Panel will have everything they need for their particular chat with you. H/R or Personnel will have fed them your application and any other info germaine to the appointment.

All you need to do is be friendly, relaxed and answer their questions. They will have a series of predetermined questions they will ask. Believe it or not, 50% of your appointment will deal with how you answer their questions and 50% will be them taking a look at who you are and how you present yourself. Just be yourself.

I've sat on these boards before. Usually a panel of three people. Two LEO's and maybe a civilian representative is the usual panel. This, of course, is not the exactly the same with every board but generally true.

Wear a suit or coat and tie outfit. Be clean shaven, fresh haircut, cut nails and RELAX. Make eye contact. My quess is that the panel should not be adversarial in nature but rather open and friendly. It doesn't behoove a panel to be at odds with a candidate. If all you do is defend yourself in the midst of questioning, the panel will not get a good read on you as a potential employee.

Anything else you need?

rypete says ...

Take your PT gear only. Don't worry about taking anything else. Sounds like you're getting ahead of yourself and you'll get into trouble like that. Take one step at a time and right now you need to focus on getting past the PT portion. Relax! Good luck!

+++++++++++++++

(I think he said he already passed his PT stuff.... )

CONGRATS !!!! Listen to Sarge, he has said everything you need to know. Now, relax, deep breaths, get the haircut and take time to go get a manicure ! People DO look at your hands and it's just better to be well cared for ! If you don't wear a suit often, pull the darn thing out of the closet and make sure all the buttons are on and secure, shirt and tie, you know the drill !!!!

Good advice given by those prior to my comment. Makes sure to brush your tooth. Seriously, look sharp and not too much smell good. Eye contact. Keep those hands off your face and hair and place on lap. Your confidence will be detected very early on. Don't get cocky when axed about yourself. I sincerely wish you well. Will you be nervous? Does Barbie have plastic breasts of course you will be. Go get them tiger and get that prize.

Take a brief (very brief) moment to think about the questions you are being asked.  Especially the qustion, "What have you done to prepare yourself for the position you have applied for (police officer, deputy sheriff, reserve officer/deputy sheriff, etc)"  Good luck to you.

When they ask me that question, what have you done to prepare for this position? i would tell them that i done many ridealongs to get an inside view of what police officers really do, i have also started crossfit to get myself in shape to meet the physical demand of the job, and lastly all of my time in the military already has me used to the way a pair a military org. works. would that be a good response to that question.
